State Senate Drops Background Check on Guns

To parents, safety of their children should never be an option thus parents have always the right to make sure that their children are secure wherever they are and whenever possible. Many schools in the country have already implemented a regulated background check procedures on their employees and vying applicants for address people search just to make sure that school children will be safe in schools and at the same time parents will be worry-free. This procedure will also eliminate bad employees out of the school properties as records show that among the problems of the schools in the US is primarily the lack of punctuality and other under the table modus.

While lobbyists, pro-guns, anti-guns, lawmakers, sellers, and other concerned citizens are racing like mice through the finalization of the reforms in the gun laws, Colorado has finalized their own version including itself to the list of states who do not favor a criminal background checks procedure when buying a gun. The US Senate and the House has also their own versions though it is still yet too premature to tackle in either house. However, it would seem that State Senates are advancing a crusade in their own localities to block any attempt to give way to unchecked gun purchases.

Other states have only been tackling about the alleged loophole in gun laws in their respective places which allow one to buy a gun on gun shows without showing necessary documents and without conducting a process whereby the buyer is searched over a criminal history database. In Virginia, the brother of one of the victims in the shooting at one of its respective schools invited media and other gun less America backers when he purchased a gun through a gun show. It turned out that he had acquired more than 10 high caliber guns like AK47's, several .45 pistols, and another carbine without the gun seller asking about his identity. In his story, he refused when the cashier asked to him to show a license and then the cashier just did nothing and continue with the sales.

House Bill 1180 has been passed in Denver May 4 with overwhelming votes. The HB 1180 is the proposed bill that cuts out the added checks done whenever a gun sale is to be done. Specifically, the exempted in the said search are those who had already acquired previous guns and have concealed weapon permits. The main purpose of this law according to Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Dist. 1, is to minimize cost and cut the number of day's criminal background checks would actually consume when another similar search is to be conducted to the same persons.

"The waiting period for so called 'instant background checks', in some weekends, can take as long as 48 hours, effectively killing the sale of the weapon to a law abiding citizen who would have otherwise qualified," said Brophy in a statement published online by the ABC7 News.

However, a Senator on the Democratic wing said the bill is not well thought and that it would just cause redundancy if not properly executed or a lapse whenever there is a criminal who wanted to buy a gun. Senator Evie Hudak, D-Dist. 19 said this in the same published article.

"I think it's worth waiting a few hours to make sure a person that gets a gun is someone we want to be able to have a gun," Hudak said.

The Colorado concealed weapon permit or the CCW is valid for five years and when this will be enough to be used to perceive that a buyer has not committed a crime in that span of time is basically thoughtless. So, it means that an criminal background checks is still a way to eliminate bad buyers out there thus will lower chances of guns being used in crimes in Colorado. Other wise, Colorado will just become a buying zone while criminals are looking out to other neighboring states for their preys.
