Cheap UK Hotels For Christmas Visits

It's that time of year when our diaries start to fill and our social lives start to buzz. From Christmas shopping in London to visiting the family in the countryside and festive drinks with the girls in the city, we all tend to be more accepting of the invitations this time of year in an eager effort to spread the Christmas cheer. However with these exciting social visits often comes the need for hotel accommodation. At a time of year when we're all trying not to over-spend, it's worth taking a look at some of the ways you can keep the costs down this Christmas when it comes to booking UK hotels.

Many of the social events we attend over the Christmas period are spontaneous and not necessary planned months in advance. However the earlier you can book UK hotels, the more chance you have of receiving a competitive rate. Show up at the hotel on the day and your guaranteed to pay a higher rate than if you book in advance on the internet.

Location has a hidden agenda in the price of a hotel room, however if you don't mind stretching your legs and taking a short stroll, it's worth booking in to a hotel a short drive or walk from your venue. This is especially true for those visiting the city. City centre hotels will always charge a higher premium because of the convenience of their location. With a little research, you may be able to find an equally nice hotel at a fraction of the price on the outskirts of the city.

Of course the star rating of your hotel will largely determine the price you pay for your room. Even if you have decided to pay the higher end prices of four or five star accommodation, it's still certainly worth checking on-line for reduced rates. You'll be surprised at how the same room can be advertised at so many different prices.

If however, you are simply looking for a cost effective room to lay your head for the night and leave early the next morning, there are plenty of excellent three star options available to you throughout the UK. From big chains hotels such as Travelodge, who offer no frills accommodation at competitive rates, to clean and comfortable bed and breakfasts, there is certainly plenty of choice. The national newspapers often advertise competitive hotel rates for big chain hotels so it's worth keeping an eye out for these.

If you can travel during the week, you are also likely to get a reduced room rate at most UK hotels. Prices tend to increase over peak holidays periods and at weekends so planning a mid-week stay may be gentler on your credit card. If you're keen to avoid the crowds, it's another reason to book a mid week stay. Week-days are usually quieter and you may even be lucky enough to be offered a room upgrade as a result.

For those on a real tight budget, it may be worth taking a look at the hundreds of youth hostels around the UK. Whether you are happy to book yourself into a shared room, or require your own private room, the choice is yours. While hostels certainly are not everyone's cup of tea, at a cost of around ten GBP a night, they are a great choice if you would rather spend your money on festive drinks and gifts, especially if you are just checking in for one night.

There are many options to choose from when it comes to booking UK hotels this Christmas. Assuming you plan a little in advance and shop around, there's no reason why you need to pay through the roof and blow your entire monthly Christmas budget on a bed for just one night.
