Guys and Dolls Tickets - A New Revival Age

It hasn't been that long since Rent closed its doors at the Nederlander Theatre and already the famed "Seasons of Love" doors are opening once again, this time for the Frank Loesser, Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling revival Guys and Dolls. Opening January 5th, the show begins official previews February 3rd and opens to the public at the beginning of March.

Headlined by Oliver Platt, who plays Nathan Detroit, the show also stars Gilmore Girls' Lauren Graham as Miss Adelaide, Craig Bierko as Sky Masterson and Kate Jennings Grant as Sarah Brown. Directed by Des McAnuff, this former '50s longest running show will have you singing "Bushel and a Peck" with the rest of the cast when you get your very own Guys and Dolls tickets.

Joining Platt and the rest of the cast are Titus Burgess as Nicely Nicely Johnson, Glenn Fleshler as Big Jule, Adam Lefevre as Lt. Brannigan, Jim Ortlieb as Arvide, Steve Rosen as Benny Southstreet and Mary Testa as General Cartwirght. The infamous music and lyrics by Loesser will include "If I were a Bell," "Adelaide's Lament," "I"ll Know," "Guys and Dolls" and "Luck Be a Lady."

The Tony Award winning musical comedy will return to the stage this year after it became the fifth longest running Broadway musical of the fifties. Though originally envisioned as a serious romantic story, producers Cy Feuer and Ernest Martin hired Swerling and Burrows, two radio and television writers to write, neither who had any theatrical experience. Based loosely on Damon Runyon's "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown," the play follows Nathan Detroit, a New York crap game organizer who bets that Miss Sarah Brown won't fall in love with him.

The first Guys and Dolls show opened November 24, 1950 for 1,2000 performances with a cast that included Robert Alda, Vivian Blaine, Sam Levene and Isabel Bigley. In 1955 the play was turned into a film starring Marlon Brando, Vivian Blaine, Frank Sinatra and Jean Simmons. The play earned five Tony Awards when it first premiered, including Best Musical, and the film was nominated for four Oscars and won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture for a Musical/Comedy.

As the revival act makes headlines up until its first performances, so do the stars of the show. Graham, who is premiering her Broadway vocals for the first time, is also working on a new ABC television sitcom this year. According to Variety, Graham will return to the small screen as a self help guru who doesn't follow her own advice when she's dumped. Graham's producing the new series, while Will & Grace writer Alex Herschlag is on board.

Platt, who is also making his musical debut, is supporting his latest screen adventure, Ron Howard's Frost/Nixon, an adaption of Peter Morgan's West End hit about the 1977 television interviews between journalist David Frost and former President Richard Nixon. Platt plays Bob Zelnick, the veteran journalist and former national bureau chief for NPR who was in charge of researching Nixon's domestic and foreign policies for Frost.

This isn't the first time that a Guys and Dolls revival has returned to Broadway; in 1976 an all-black cast created a revival and in 1992 Nathan Lane (another initial underdog like Platt) and Faith Prince performed the famous play with direction by Jerry Zaks.
