Four Seasons Guide To New Jersey -- Including The Best New Jersey Amusement Parks

New Jersey -- it's a state that is often overlooked as a vacation destination by some travelers, but its size is decidedly deceiving. Between Vernon's snow-capped mountain creek resort, Wildwood attractions of Doo-Wop hotels and bustling boardwalks, and the best New Jersey amusement parks, New Jersey is jam-packed with great things to do on a vacation, come summer, autumn, winter, or spring.

Summer In New Jersey

With 127 miles of beautiful coastline, it's not hard to work out what summer activities feature heavily on the New Jersey vacation list. The Shore regions of New Jersey, including Monmouth, Ocean, Cumberland and Cape May Counties, are a sun-seeker's paradise.

Right down the coast, New Jersey's beaches are wide, white, with waters clean and clear. Famous for their bustling boardwalks, a day at a New Jersey beach is never dull. A recent contest conducted by the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium saw 16,000 voters pick Wildwood beach as the best beach in New Jersey.

Wildwood beach, like all the beaches in the Wildwood region, is completely free, so there are no beach tags required. It's fully patrolled during the summer months, which makes it a great spot if you have kids.

Wildwood beach is just one of the many must-see Wildwood attractions to visit in the summer. The best New Jersey amusement parks are literally a stones throw from Wildwood beach. On what is potentially the busiest and most exciting boardwalk in the State sits the best New Jersey amusement parks all in a row. There are fast rides, slow rides, rides to make your stomach turn, and a beautiful big Ferris wheel with a spectacular view over the beach and boardwalk below.

New Jersey In The Fall

As the temperatures start dropping, Fall is a great time to step back in time for a good dose of history. The Delaware River region in the west is brimming with history. Start by experiencing first-hand a soldier's life in the 1758 Old Barracks in Trenton. Spend some time at the Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville and stand where George Washington's troops landed on Christmas night in 1776. And, for a more modern day history lesson, stop in at Princeton University to see where hundreds of state legislators and 44 governors broadened their minds.

Winter In New Jersey

For a high-flying adventure, head to the Skylands region in the northwest. As its name suggests, the Skylands region is home to the highest point in the state. Marked by the High Point Monument in High Point State Park, the snow is thick at 1,803 feet.

Vernon's Mountain Creek Resort in Sussex County is one of the state's premier ski and snowboarding destination. There are 45 trails, 11 lifts, and 8 tubing lanes for just as much fun as the New Jersey amusement parks provide in the summer. The mountain is also equipped for night skiing on some of the trails in peak season.

Take a day off from the slopes and explore the 14,000 acres of parkland that make up High Point State Park along the Kittatinny Mountains in Sussex County. There are around 50 marked trails of varying levels to follow.

Spring in New Jersey

Spring in New Jersey is a nature-filled event. New Jersey has over 500,000 acres of state and county parks and forests -- well, it is after-all the Garden State. Some of the best hikes can be found in Delaware Water Gap, Appalachian Trail, the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park and High Point State Park.

Every April in Newark, Branch Brook Park holds the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival is a sensory delight and hugely popular for tourists of all ages.
