Games & Prizes for Your Baby Shower
You've been tasked with planning a baby shower and you want it to be memorable. How to do that? With fun games! With these games, your shower will be memorable.
The standard for baby showers, "How Big is Mom's Belly?" is fun game for everyone. Each guest cuts a length of string they estimate will fit around the mother's belly. When finished, have them wrap their strings around mommy's mid-compare. It's fun to see which guests have over- or underestimated mommy's girth.
Continuing the tried-and-true, is the "Don't Say Baby" game. As guests arrive, attach a clothespin to them." If a guest catches someone saying the word "baby," they collect the other person's pin. The guest with the most pins at the end of the shower wins. Speaking of pins, fill a glass jar with safety pins and have the guests guess how many are inside. Simple, but fun.
There are lots of games you can play with just paper and pencils. "Name That Item, Baby" is a quick but fun game of writing as many baby items you can think of in five minutes. In the same concept, is "Name That Tune, Baby" where guests list song titles with the word "baby" in them. Another crowd pleaser is "Baby Scrambler" where guests have to unscramble pre-printed baby item words within a time limit.
"Baby Bingo" makes opening the presents even more fun. As each guest arrives with a present, assign a number to the package that corresponds to the bingo cards. As the mother opens the presents, she calls out the number. The first one to bingo wins. You can play tic-tac-toe on a dry erase board by breaking up the guests into teams and quizzing them on baby facts. Or, you can test the guest's knowledge of baby rhymes by reading the first part of a rhyme with the guests finishing the second half.
You can also create some fun visual games, too. Everything from, "Who's the Baby?" where guests have to guess who is who in old baby pictures of the mother-to-be and her family, to "Put the Baby on Mommy" or "Put the Binky in Baby's Mouth" which are baby shower variations of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey."
"Bottle Race" pits guests head-to-head to see who can suck their baby bottle dry first. "Pass the Diaper" involves passing a chocolate "soiled" diaper from guest to guest while music plays. One of the most hilarious games is "Blindfold Diaper Practice." Each team has a person blindfolded, takes the old diaper off , and puts a new diaper on the baby. Once done, the guest passes off the blindfold and the task to their teammate. The first team done wins.
Keeping with the blindfold concept, "Guess the Gerber's" is not for the weak stomach. Have ten or so flavors of baby food, with the labels taken off. Each guest takes a spoonful and guesses the flavor. The most discerning palate, wins.
"Let's Make a Baby!" is a crafty game where three-member teams, armed with magazines, scissors, and glue create a picture of what the new baby will look like. Mom-to-be chooses the winning design.
And lastly, an extra fun game is "Feel and Say." Put different, oddly shaped baby products and toys in a bag, blindfold the mother-to-be and as she pulls each item out, she must guess what she thinks it is. The winners of this game are the guests, as the mother will surely be providing more than one hilarious guess.
