How To Buy A Night Vision Product?

The basic requirements, whether they are meant for compact night vision binoculars or infra red night vision goggles, are the same. Read on to know how a night vision device works:

All night vision devices also called NVDs are basically meant to improve the ability to see at night.

The night vision scopes are sophisticated devices that offer assistance while viewing in almost complete darkness situations. Their task is to amplify the available light for easier viewing. However, like most compact night vision binoculars, these rifle scopes are not intended for magnification of far away objects.

All Yukon night vision products as well as atn night vision products include a built-in infra-red illuminator that is meant to provide additional light. The additional light makes viewing in the dark a reality.

Light enters the device through an objective lens and hits the photocathode in front of the intensifier tube.

Here, high-energy electrons are produced that create an image on the phosphor screen.

The brighter image is then projected through the eyepiece to the shooters eye.

Here are 5 questions you had in mind about night vision optics, but didnt know whom to ask or were hesitant to do so.

1. Can Night Vision Devices Be Used During The Day?

No. Most of the devices contain highly light sensitive components. When exposed to sunlight, they might get damaged. Some devices are delicate enough to be damaged by bright streetlights, headlights, or even flashlights. The phosphor screen and the light intensifier tube are the units that suffer damage through exposure to intense light.

2. Do Night Vision Goggles Create Colored Images?

No. All devices for night vision are monochromatic. You see images in green color because thats what the phosphor screen glows with. Green is the color to which human eyes are the most sensitive.

3. What If The Device Slips Off The Hand And Falls?

It will break! The phosphor screen and light intensifier tube are delicate parts that need to be handled with extreme care.

4. Is It Alright To See Black Spots On The Device Screen?

Yes. The image tubes of such devices show spots to some extent. This is one of the inbuilt characteristics of all night vision tools. However, the black spots should remain constant. They should not multiply or get bigger. There is a tolerance limit for these spots for which the devices are tested before being marketed.

5. Is A License Necessary For Using Night Vision Technology?

No. However, many countries have put regulations on the kind of device that civilians can use. You must be aware of these regulations before you buy a pair of night vision binoculars or any other. Most of the sophisticated devices are valuable for military use, law enforcement, surveillance, security, patrolling, and private investigation.

Choosing A Night Vision Product

The key difference between different night vision products is the intensifier technology used. You would come across Yukon night vision products in the Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 and now, even the Gen 4 versions. The higher the generation model, the more sophisticated is the technology used.

If you are in search for a night vision device for recreational activities like boating, fishing, hiking, nature viewing etc., then the Gen 1 night vision devices would be the perfect choice.

If you interested in buying night vision binoculars or a night vision rifle scope, then it would be better to opt for Gen 1 devices by Yukon night vision products. However, if it is within your price range, then go ahead and purchase the Gen 2 and 3 night vision devices. Ideal for professional uses like surveillance, search and rescue and military operations, these devices offer greater light amplification.
