Hunting the Paulding Forest Georgia WMA

I visited the Paulding Forest Georgia WMA over the weekend, and at first I was extremely irritated. The map was terrible, I do mean terrible. I have a feeling we will soon be losing this Georgia WMA, because it seems that the closer we get to losing a Georgia WMA, the worse the maps get for the WMA, and there are more and more private homes popping up all around that particular Georgia WMA.

So anyway, I finally got familiar with the area, and after I figured out some of the roads, and where I was at, I found a few cool spots to share with everyone. I stopped at one small BBQ joint called Wallaces Hickory House (770) 505-1150, and it was absolutely the best BBQ sandwich I have ever had, it was very moist and juicy, and the Brunswick stew was pretty good, a little more mushy than I prefer, but still really good. I would actually take the hour long drive back there from my house just for another one of their sandwiches. They were located right at the corner of Ga. Hwy 101 and Goldmine Rd.

I also found a very cool campground located approx. 10 minutes outside of the Paulding Forest Georgia WMA. The campground is called The Rock. The Rock is at 130 Forsyth Lake Rd. Rockmart, Ga. 30153. Now, heres whats so awesome about this place. They have these awesome little cabins you can stay in that were like thirty dollars per night, and they had a big outdoor concert area for country, bluegrass, and southern rock bands. There were tenet sites, RV sites, picnic tables, everything you need for a nice overnight stay.

If you need a good breakfast, the best I could find closest to the Georgia WMA was a little store that had a small dinner buffet with some good fried chicken and big steak fries, and they also served breakfast every morning seven days a week. The biscuits were made fresh, and for me they really hit the spot that morning. The name of the store is Scotts Market Country Cooking, sorry, no phone number, but they are located on Goldmine rd.

There was one other small BBQ place that I found called Merles BBQ, (770) 505-0608, sorry I didnt try the food, I went inside, I was already stuffed from the other places I tried, and I just wanted to sample their stew. The stew was great, and they had some great looking home made peach pies out on the counter. Im going to leave trying this place out till my next visit, but based on the looks of the place Im sure its great. If anyone trys Merles, leave a comment and let me know.

The one thing that would have made this an awesome visit would have been a good fishing lake where I could night fish, but anyway, I will try to find a good fishing spot in the area next time Im at the Paulding Forest WMA, and update the maps once I find one.

I am in the process of building a library of Georgia WMA enhanced maps that show corrected roads, and non commercial Ma and Pop diners and inexpensive places to stay when visiting the Georgia WMAs. Well thats all till my next venture, and meanwhile, happy hunting on the Georgia WMAs
