Cartier International Polo Hospitality Offer You A Day Like No Other
Since a young age I have always been a keen polo enthusiast, I love both horse riding and sports so the combination was always going to be a personal winner for me. There is nothing better than spending a summer's day watching a game of polo, watching the horses gallop around creating a wonderful atmosphere. As it happens my family enjoys the sport to so we love nothing better than taking advantage of polo hospitality and booking a private suite for the day.
The history of polo is a full and vibrant one and the actual origins of the game are fairly unknown but it is thought to have started somewhere in Persia, 6th Century BC. Polo used to be used to train cavalry units, usually the kings Calvary or elite troops and it was played with about two hundred players. To an outsider it may have looked more like a battle scene than the four aside game we know today.
Eventually the sport became an Iranian national sport that was played by mainly by the upper classes. Women however were able to play also, which is shown in Persian literature throughout history and through Ferdowsi (an Iranian poet and historian) in his work Shahnameh. He speaks of an Emperor named Shapur II in the 4th Century during the Sassanid dynasty who plays polo from the young age of seven.
Modern polo consists of four players on horseback and full sized field is usually around three hundred yards long and two hundred yards wide. This can change slightly dependent on whether there are side boards in the game, there are two tall goal posts at the end that are spread about eight yards apart. The main object of the game is to score as many goals as you can and once a goal has been scored, the teams will swap goals.
The ponies that are used within the game (although they are called ponies, this is merely tradition they are fully grown horses) they range from 14.2 to 16 hands high and weigh up to 1100lbs. Ponies are selected on their ability to run quickly in short bursts, their agility and their stamina. Ponies have a temperament that is suitable for the game and not get too excited.
By 2009 the Cartier International Polo will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in the wonderful setting of the Guards Polo Club. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone to experience this beautiful day out and to make the most of the polo hospitality available. Hospitality packages at the event are a great way to fully appreciate the whole day and ensure you get the best view of the game.
Polo hospitality will give its visitors a truly unforgettable experience, allowing you a day filled with champagne, canapes and polo. Packages can be purchased that include lavish thee course lunches and complimentary bars. What a perfect way to spend a day, relaxing in the sun whilst being able to enjoy one of the most amazing sports played today.
So if you are considering visiting a sports event this year, polo is something that ought to be seriously considered. If you love sport and stunning horses playing then this is probably perfect for you. The polo hospitality that is available on top of this is something that you will remember for a very long time and ensure you have a luxurious and magnificent day.
