Do You Have To Like Sport To Enjoy The Grand National Meeting Hospitality Packages?
Some sporting events are akin to a national celebration and appear to have replaced some of the traditional events that used to bring friends and families together at various times of the year. The May Day celebrations for example attract only a handful of revelers, whereas events like Wimbledon, the World Cup and the Grand National practically bring the country to a stand-still. I want to know what is so enthralling about these events and if they really can replace the more traditional celebrations in the UK. Basically, do you have to be a sporting fan to be able to enjoy the likes of the Grand National and the Hospitality Packages on offer?
Let us start with Wimbledon. It has been a staple of the British summer since the dawn of time, or so it seems. It invokes memories of strawberries and cream, homemade lemonade, sunhats and of course rain stopping play. Not being a sporting fan until later on in my life, I used to absorb the Wimbledon Championships as a child with a sense of duty. All the adults were talking about it, everyone was watching it on the television, and there were a few occasions when I knew people who actually went to watch the men's finals on the centre court. Their tickets bought them a slice of the true prestigious nature and glamour of the event with hospitality packages that included everything from champagne to a chauffeur. By all accounts, you didn't necessarily have to be in to tennis to enjoy the Wimbledon action, and this annual event really did bring a whole community together.
The World Cup is slightly different, for a start it only happens every four years, and the level of impact the event has depends solely on whether or not England are still in the running for winning the cup. I think it has been so long since we actually did well in the tournament that as a nation we are somehow hardwired to be in tune with the World Cup. It is in our collective gene pool that the events of 1966 must be repeated and moreover that it is just as possible every time a new World Cup Season starts. Televisions are bought into workplaces and schools, cars, buildings and people are adorned with the St George's flag. Even if you don't like football, you will be desperate to get hold of a ticket, and hospitality package tickets are like pure gold dust. This is definitely a national event that promises to unite a whole nation, not just a community.
The Grand National Meeting is just as popular with those that couldn't care less about horse racing the rest of the year, uniting family, friends and the whole country. The betting shops overspill with people wanting to place their yearly bet, and families unite to bet against each other. The annual steeplechase unites on all levels, and, similar to Wimbledon, those who want to really get a slice of the action opt to invest in a Grand National Meeting hospitality package. This is where ladies fashion meets racing form. Ladies day is more about the hats than the racing, to the fashionista's anyway, and the day gets plenty of media coverage in its own right. For some, investing in a hospitality package means investing in a day of extravagance where champagne in the paddock marks the highlight of the sporting year.
It seems that events such as these have attractions other than the sport and therefore attract the nation's attention. I believe that anything that can unite people of all backgrounds and bring entertainment and fun is well worth celebrating, especially if it gives everyone something to gossip about, even if it is not actually the sport!
