Granger Lake is located in Texas and the crappie is one of the most popular species of fish found in this lake. This species is perfect for the novice angler and for families that want to enjoy a great fishing trip together. It has to a lot to offer the experienced angler as well because for a small fish, they can put up an incredible fight.

Granger Lake is found northeast of Austin in Williamson County and has much to offer anyone that loves to fish. It covers 4,009 acres and is about fifty feet deep. There are many shallow areas on this lake and much of the water is muddy, which is the prefect environment for the crappie to grow and thrive.

Crappie fishing is great in the spring and the fall on this lake. They will be moving into the shallow areas during the month of February because they will soon be getting ready to spawn. In fact, the crappie fishing is great all year long here.

This area of Texas is prone to high winds which makes the water choppy. This makes the crappie fishing even better and since water sports are not allowed on Granger Lake, it's always quite and peaceful. This is exactly the type of surroundings anglers look for when fishing.

Granger Lake Fishing Tips

There are many great places on Granger Lake where you can go to catch crappie. The crappies are always abundant near the creek channels and along the humps and ridges throughout the lake in the spring. There are many shallow areas in this lake where the crappies are also plentiful. In the cooler months you can search for them around the many structures found in this lake such as the laydowns and submerged stumps and trees.

The crappies tend to stay around the structures that can be found out in the deeper parts of the lake as well. You can always find them around brush piles so make a point to fish near these. The upper portion of the lake has many flooded trees and the main part of the lake has drop-offs, ridges pilings and docks where you can find this species of fish.

Using tube jigs and minnows are the best option for catching crappie in Granger Lake. Night crawlers are also a good choice but nothing beats the live minnows.
This is their favorite food and the one they will normally always respond to. Be sure to use small bait because the crappie won't strike anything that is too large. This is simply because they are a small species of fish. You can entice the crappie to bite anytime if you use the right bait and present it in a way to attract them.

If you are fishing for the black crappie then search in the clearer parts of the water where there is plenty of vegetation to be found. The white crappies prefer the darker muddy parts of the lake. It's a good idea to try a variety of different methods when fishing for crappie because sometimes they can be a little finicky. The more you experiment the more success you can have.
