Cincinnati Bengals Tickets: Bengals are Sharpening their Claws
Sports fans know that a pair of Cincinnati Bengals tickets assures them of the opportunity to enjoy some highflying football action by a talented team.
The 2008 season was not the breakout year that had been hoped for but there were some riveting performances to be seen. Is Cincinnati going to use the 2009 draft to add that needed depth? It remains to be seen, but anxious fans are already anticipating some phenomenal games as soon as fall rolls around.
Brown Responsible for Bengals' Birth
The American Football League welcomed the Cincinnati Bengals as an expansion team 40 years ago in 1968. Paul Brown had coached the Cleveland Browns in the past and took over the coaching duties for this upstart team. It was Brown who had spearheaded the effort to bring a second pro team to the state of Ohio. The Bengals name was chosen by Brown to honor some previous pro football groups that had been based in the city during the 1930's and 1940's.
The first season for the Bengals started out positively with 2 home wins but the season ended with a disappointing 3-11 record. However this was the most wins for any 1960's era football expansion franchise. With Brown's guidance and expertise Cincinnati won their AFC Central Division title in 1970 and was the first expansion team to ever win a championship in their first years of competition. They had to wait a few years, but by 1981 the Cincinnati Bengals tickets were hotter than ever as these players made their first Super Bowl debut.
Highlights of the Brash Tiger Cubs
Ken Anderson was chosen to quarterback the team in 1971 and although he had been a 3rd draft pick, he would become the team leader for the next 16 tears. A second AFC Central title was won by the team in 1973 and they landed a wild card slot in the 1975 playoffs.
In their big 1981 season, the Bengals trotted out their new tiger stripes that adorned their helmets and uniforms and captured the AFC Central Division once again with a record of 12-4. They then routed San Diego 27-7 and used their tiger power to advance to Super Bowl XVI against San Francisco. The Big Title eluded the younger team as they went down in a close one 26-21. Boomer Esiason was the Bengals quarterback in their second Super Bowl shot during 1988. The team routed Buffalo 21-10 to claim the AFC championship bout and narrowly missed the title in Super Bowl XXIII when Joe Montana converted a last effort touchdown pass to eke past the Bengals with a 20-16 score.
Future is Waiting to Be Written
For fans, there is a lot of optimism and enthusiasm in the air as they break away from the 2008 season and look to the upcoming 2009 months. Cincinnati Bengals tickets are predicted to once again be brisk sellers as Carson Palmer and teammates get ready to take to the field.
The draft will throw some new players into the mix and fans are looking forward to seeing Stacy Andrews recover from knee surgery and take his place on the Bengals offensive line. What the new season holds in store for this young team is still to be seen but it will definitely include some exciting games that are played to the wire.
