Denver Broncos Tickets - New GM Releases Six
The Denver Broncos are going through one of the biggest shakeups of the past years for the team, which started when they chose to fire longtime head coach Mike Shanahan. Another big change was to hire a general manager instead of giving those duties to a head coach like the Broncos did with Shanahan. Brian Xanders came in as the GM and now the effect of his presence is starting to be felt. Anticipating roster additions he will want to make, Xanders released six players to make room in the salary cap. Defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, linebacker Niko Koutouvides, linebacker Jamie Winborn, safety Marquand Manuel, defensive end John Engelberger and tight end Nate Jackson were all released. Fans can be there to cheer on the revamped team with Denver Broncos tickets.
Robertson frees up the most amount of cash for next season, as he was going to count $16 million against the salary cap. Last year was Robertson's first with the Broncos, and he started in all but one game, tallying 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Prior to being with the Broncos, he spent the last five seasons as a starter with the New York Jets. In his six years on the league, he has had a total of 278 tackles, 16 sacks and one pass defended.
Koutouvides also only had been with the Broncos for one season. His pay would have counted $3.06 million toward the salary cap. This last season, he played in 14 games but started in none, tallying 12 tackles. Prior to his time with the Broncos, he was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2004 to 2007. He has a career total of 123 tackles, one sack and one pass defended.
Winborn spent the last two seasons with the Broncos and would count $2.25 million toward the salary cap. During the 2008 season, he started 11 out of the 16 games he played in, tallying 99 tackles, half a sack and 11 passes defended. He was with the San Francisco 49ers from 2001 to 2005 before spending a season each with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his career, he has tallied 339 tackles, 10 sacks, 24 passes defended and three interceptions.
Manuel, who would have counted $1.33 million against the salary cap, has been with the Broncos for one season. In 2008, he had 14 starts in the 16 games he played in, tallying 83 tackles and four passes defended. Manuel has been in the league since 2002. Since that time, he has spent time on the rosters of the Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers. He has a career total of 329 tackles one sack 13 passes defended and two interceptions.
Engelberger frees up $2.18 million for the salary cap and has spent the last four seasons on the Broncos' roster. Last season, he started six out of the 15 games he played in, finishing with 31 tackles and one sack. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Niners and has a career total of 232 tackles, 20.5 sacks and 14 passes defended.
Nate Jackson would have counted less than $1 million dollars toward the salary cap and has been with the Broncos for his entire career. He started three games last season and played in 10, tallying 11 receptions for 84 yards and one touchdown, which is his highest total ever with the Broncos.
