NFL Tickets - AFC Pro Bowl Selections

I thought the selections for the skill positions for the 2008 Pro Bowl were better than most years, with no major snubs drawing the ire of the general NFL-loving public. Let's take a look at each skill position player to make the AFC roster. (* denotes starter)

Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning*: Manning's season obviously isn't going as unnoticed as I thought. At the time this selection, Manning's Colts are on a seven-game winning streak. The former Volunteer struggled out of the gate this season, but mostly because he missed all of training camp and preseason after undergoing offseason knee surgery. It took a few weeks, but the Colts got in sync and Manning deserves to be the starter for the Pro Bowl.

Jay Cutler: Cutler has had a breakout season in 2008. He can make throws that few other signal callers in the league can pull off. He does still try to do too much with his arm at times, but he's going to be challenging Manning and Tom Brady for best quarterback in the conference honors soon.

Brett Favre: I have no problem with giving Favre the nod here, though I would have preferred Chad Pennington to make the team. Favre has done a great job in picking up a new offense and adjusting to a new city, revitalizing a Jets team to a level that I didn't think he could.

Running Backs

Thomas Jones*: Jones is having the best season among all AFC running backs and certainly deserves to be the starter. He's been flying a bit under the radar so it's encouraging to see him get the starting nod. He has been more important to the New York Jets offense than Favre.

Chris Johnson: Johnson has been amazing in his rookie season. He's been splitting carries with LenDale White, but has still been able to gain enough attention to earn a Pro Bowl nod in his first season as a pro.

Ronnie Brown: Browns is having a great season, and he's definitely been a big factor in the Miami Dolphins' resurgent season. That said, I would have voted for Steve Slaton, who is having a really big year in Houston. His ability to run inside despite his size has come as a big surprise to everyone, and his skills as a receiver are fantastic for a rookie.
Wide Receivers

Andre Johnson*: Johnson could be the most dominant receiver in the league. He's a matchup nightmare and there's no other receiver that can compare to him physically aside from maybe Calvin Johnson. He's was a no-brainer as a starter and is one of the few guys I'd buy NFL tickets just to see play in person.

Brandon Marshall*: Johnson is on a tier of his own among receivers in the AFC, but Marshall is the most dominant of the next level of guys. He's big, fast and still developing. He has the potential to be great, as long as he doesn't get in his own way.

Wes Welker: This guy is just phenomenal. He's one of the best route runners in the league and must be double-teamed when lining up in the slot. He's quietly putting together a fantastic season in New England.

Reggie Wayne: Wayne is having a good year, but I would have given this spot to Randy Moss. Moss is having a god season, though most people haven't realized it because of the gaudy numbers he put up last year. The reason I would pick Moss over Wayne is that Moss lost his starting quarterback less than 10 minutes into the season, though Matt Cassell has played very well.
