NFL Tickets - Cutler to the NFC North?
The fur started flying in Mile High City earlier this offseason when Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler caught wind of new coach Josh McDaniels trying to make a deal to rid Denver of Cutler in favor of quarterback Matt Cassel. The deal with Cassel didn't work out, but the damage in the relationship between Cutler and McDaniels was done. More recently, the two met in what many saw as a reconciliation meeting, but the outcome was far from peaceful. In interviews after the meeting, Cutler expressed that McDaniels did not make Cutler feel welcomed or wanted, pushing Cutler to ask Denver for a trade. The chance of a top quarterback has teams around the league drooling, and much of the interest is coming from the NFC North. Already, rumors are swirling about the possibility of Cutler as a Detroit Lion, Chicago Bear or Minnesota Viking. See Cutler no matter where he lands with NFL tickets online.
Detroit Lions: The Lions have a marked need in the quarterback position. They recently restructured the contract of veteran Daunte Culpepper to keep him in Detroit for a few more seasons, but everyone knows he isn't a longterm solution. The Lions went through a major overhaul after finishing at the bottom of the league last season. They are already expected to take quarterback Matthew Stafford with their first pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Cutler is only 25 years old and is a proven NFL quarterback. The Lions are unlikely to want both Cutler and Stafford, but will inevitably have to add another, younger quarterback.
Chicago Bears: Quarterback Kyle Orton won the starting job and the beginning of the 2008 season, and performed remarkably well for a Bears quarterback prior to an ankle injury later in the season. Orton is a good option, but not a great one. General manager Jerry Angelo also expressed his desire to add some competition for Orton, but has since somewhat backed off that statement. Even though the Bears need a top receiver, Cutler could be just what the Bears need to make their offense potent regardless of whether or not the Bears add new targets. Unfortunately, Angelo isn't known for going after big names in free agency, meaning they are likely to be out-bid or out-maneuvered in the battle for Cutler.
Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings' owner, Zygi Wilf, doesn't seem to have the same free-agency hesitance as Angelo, which he displayed with an immense amount of activity during the 2008 offseason. Wilf has made some comments, however, that hint at his desire to add talent through the draft this season rather than free agency. The Vikings had a hit-or-miss quarterback situation last year with Gus Frerotte at the helm.
Last season, Frerotte started and played in 11 games and finished with 2,157 yards, 12 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, equaling a passer rating of 73.7. The Vikings washed their hands of Frerotte in the offseason, but they still have some options. The Vikings recently added a new quarterback, Sage Rosenfels. Rosenfels started five games for the Texans last season, finishing with a rating of 79.5. The Vikings also have Tarvaris Jackson, who played in four games for the Vikings last season. Cutler may be a great option, but they may want to see where things go with Jackson instead.
