Washington Redskins Tickets - Early Free Agency Fruitful
Teams scrambled to keep some of their top names as the free agency deadline loomed on February 26. While the lack of contracts for the free agents spelled defeat for the teams trying to keep them, for others it spelled opportunity. The Washington Redskins stand as one such victor early in the free agency process. They signed the coveted defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a long-term deal as well as cornerback DeAngelo Hall. Other teams also made headlines with their additions, like the New England Patriots picking up former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor and the Philadelphia Eagles picking up former Cincinnati Bengals right tackle Stacy Andrews. No stories seemed quite as big as the Redskins on opening day, however, as the duos contracts were impressively large. Fans can be there to cheer on the new additions with Washington Redskins tickets.
Haynesworth signed a deal within the first few hours of free residency that is worth some $100 million over seven years. After years as a standout at the University of Tennessee, he was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. During his first season, he played in every game and started three, tallying 30 tackles, one sack and three passes defended. The next season, he started 11 out of the 12 games he played in, finishing with 32 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four passes defended. After starting and playing in 14 games for the 2005 season, Haynesworth had a career-high 52 tackles and three sacks as well as one pass defended. In 2007, he became a fright for quarterbacks when he tallied 40 tackles, six sacks and four passes defended in the 13 games he played in, helping him to make his first Pro Bowl appearance. He improved on those stats in 2008 with 51 tackles, 8.5 sacks and two passes defended, earning him another Pro Bowl spot. His only drawback is that he has been fined and suspended for rough play while at Tennessee.
Hall secured his spot with the Redskins with a $54 million six-year contract. In the contract, he will have $22.5 million in guaranteed money. The contract is just slightly less than the one he signed last season to play with the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders waived him after eight games in 2008, but he was picked up by the Redskins the next week. He entered the league in 20054 when he was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons. That season he started nine of the 10 games he played in, finishing with 35 tackles, half a sack, four passes defended and two interceptions, one for a touchdown. The next season, he started and played in all but one game, finishing with 65 tackles, four passes defended and six interceptions.
He started every game in 2006, notching 58 tackles, 12 passes defended and four interceptions, one for a touchdown. He had a career-high 70 tackles the next season as well as 16 passes defended and five interceptions. In his eight games with the Raiders in 2008, he had 48 tackles, half a sack, 13 passes defended and three interceptions. With the Redskins in 2008, he had 25 tackles, eight passes defended and two interceptions. Hall has made two Pro Bowl appearances as well.
