Reavie takes Canadian Open for first PGA Tour win
Chez Reavie was asked what he planned to buy first after his $900,000 windfall in the Canadian Open.
“I have no idea,” the 26-year-old PGA Tour rookie said. “I’m sure I’ll find something nice back home, if my fiancee doesn’t spend it before I get home.”
Amanda Henrichs’ spending spree probably won’t include a bigger wedding.
“It can’t be any bigger,” Reavie said. “I picked a good spot where we couldn’t fit too many people. I’m sure she’ll find something else she wants, though.”
Reavie won the national championship Sunday for his first PGA Tour title, closing with a 1-under 70 on a welcome rain-free afternoon for a three-stroke victory over Billy Mayfair at soggy Glen Abbey.

Helen Alfredsson wins Evian Masters in a playoff
Helen Alfredsson won her first LPGA Tour title in five years Sunday, defeating rookie Na Yeon Choi in a playoff at the Evian Masters.
The 43-year-old Swede made a three-foot birdie in the third round of the playoff at the par-5 18th, while the 20-year-old Choi, of South Korea, parred the hole.
Alfredsson had a 67 in the final round, Choi shot a 66 and overnight leader Angela Park closed with a 71 as all finished at 15-under 273.
The 19-year-old Park was eliminated in the first round of the playoff at No. 18 when her birdie attempt rolled around the lip of the cup and stayed out.

Déjà vu for Greg Norman as Bruce Vaughan wins Senior Open
Another week, another close-but-no-cigar finish for Greg Norman. Seven days after finishing joint third at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Norman was tied fifth in the Senior Open Championship at Royal Troon yesterday, four strokes behind Bruce Vaughan, of the United States, who beat John Cook, a compatriot, in a play-off. It was Norman’s second appearance at the Senior Open, having come third in 2005.
Yet far from it being another tournament thrown away, Norman had done well to move into contention after an opening round of 75, four over par, had left him in 45th place. A 72 in blustery conditions on Friday was followed by a 67 on Saturday. When he birdied five of his first seven holes yesterday, the Australian’s supporters could start to dream but a double-bogey on the 17th, after underclubbing his tee shot into a bunker, ended his slim hopes.

Birdie at 18 gives Lunde Nationwide win

Bill Lunde chipped in from 30 feet to birdie his final hole and earn a one-stroke victory in the Nationwide Tour’s Children’s Hospital Invitational on Sunday.
Lunde, who sat out the 2006 season, shot a 2-over 73 in the final round, but it was good enough for his first career victory and a $135,000 winner’s check. He finished with a 5-under 279 on Ohio State’s Scarlet Course.
“The time I took away from golf gave me a new perspective on working, and how fortunate we are to play golf for a living,” he said. “It’s a special thing we get to do so I appreciate it a lot more than I used to.”

Mikael Lundberg regains title
Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg lived up to his own hype to claim a second Russian Open title in four years.
Lundberg, winner in Moscow in 2005, boasted after his second round: “I feel that I don’t have to beat anyone around here – they have to beat me.”
The 34-year-old was proved correct after a final round of 68 gave him a 21-under-par total at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club and a two-shot victory over Spain’s Jose Manuel Lara.
