Hong Kong Ice Skating Tips - Learn to Fall So You Can Learn To Skate
When you begin learning to ice skate, there is little to no chance that you will start slowly, steadily progress forwards and never, ever misjudge your abilities or surroundings - although this is always your goal! Making mistakes is a part of being human, and on the ice rink, making mistakes means falling down! Here we look at how professional Hong Kong figure skaters and Hong Kong ice hockey players fall, and how you can learn the technique as well. Knowing how to fall gives you the confidence to go higher, faster, and more intricately - here's the step by step for this essential Hong Kong ice skating skill!
It is essential that you practice falling when you are expecting it to happen - don't try to force yourself to remember the entire article when you are midair, overbalanced and about to kiss the ice rink! For your falling practice, choose a Hong Kong international sized ice rink - there is more room, and less chance of your fingers being run over. You'll need to repeat the steps below in a few different contexts - first, try deliberate falling while Hong Kong ice skating without any skates on, while standing still. Next, try falling with skates on, from a standstill. Moving slowly up the ice rink falling difficulty scale, start moving slowly and then deliberately fall over, then keep practicing your falling technique at increasing speeds on your Hong Kong international sized ice rink.
The more you do it, the more your body will instinctively know how to react, and you won't have to remind yourself of the steps each time you fall. Falling on the ice rink will come naturally - but that doesn't mean that you'll fall down more! It gives you the freedom to progress in your Hong Kong figure skating and Hong Kong ice hockey, because you are not limited by a fear of falling.
When you begin practicing falling while public skating in Hong Kong, in preparation for ice events, make sure you wear gloves and wrist guards. Much of the time you'll be wearing these items while practicing anyway. Knee and elbow guards will also give you more confidence, and ensure that you survive your first few falls on the ice rink to continue practicing.
When practicing falling for Hong Kong ice skating and Hong Kong figure skating, first squat down into the dip position - both feet are flat on the ice, and you squat down as far as possible. The arms and rear should be level (if you are flexible enough!). You will then try to lean a bit to the side - preferably the side where there is less traffic, however that is difficult to judge in the split second before you go splat! Practice your falling technique for ice hockey and ice events using your strong side (right if you are right-handed, etc), as there is less chance of injury. Try to lean forward, not back - you can land on your arms more easily, and you are much less likely to hit your head on the ice rink.
When you have fallen, put your hands in your lap immediately. Your head is probably swimming from the disorientation, and you won't know exactly how close any other skaters are. Get used to putting your hands in your lap as a safety precaution for Hong Kong ice hockey events, and multiple competitor Hong Kong figure skating events, especially. To get back up, turn onto your hands and knees. Take one of your feet and place it between your hands, then take the other one and place it between your hands - your hands and feet will all be in a nice little line on the ice. Push with your hands and straighten your knees - and you will be ready to do some more falling practice on your Hong Kong ice rink!
