A Rundown of Everything Under the Sun in Miami Florida

Riddle me this: What is a big bustling metropolis and at the same time one the most diverse nature reserves in America? Answer: Miami, Florida.

It sounds a little counterintuitive, but Miami Florida is the seventh largest city in the United States, its fourth most urban, and has one of the best skylines in the world -- yet it is the cleanest and healthiest city in America. Sun, surf, sand and skyscrapers happily coexist in Miami. And while all this makes Miami an ultimate destination, there is a lot more to this oceanside hub that can pack your Miami travel plans with unforgettable experiences. That said, there is something for absolutely everyone.

The city port sees the largest number of cruise ships in the world pass through its harbors every year. But it's no wonder Miami travel is a must for domestic visitors and globetrotters alike: everything there is to do is quite literally under the sun here in Miami Florida. A mild climate wraps Miami all year round; it is a concrete paradise that grew along stretches of white sandy beaches and emerald green waters that sparkle in the year-long sunshine. Miami Florida's breathtaking shore is alive with restaurants, museums, and sports and recreation facilities renowned the world over. On the glistening waves that lap against the smooth beaches, you can go jetskiing, diving and snorkeling, surfing, windsurfing, sailing, parasailing... the list is endless.

Miami travel is a particularly alluring temptation given the image of glitz and glamour that mention of "Miami" conjures. Immerse yourself in the pristine waters and immaculate beaches of Miami Florida and the rest of Miami Dade (a cold colada or daiquiri while spreading out on the sand is mandatory). Popular spots include South Beach and Miami Beach, and Key Biscayne is just a short scenic drive away. Throw yourself into wind breeze on a sailboat, or enjoy the sea breeze aboard a yacht and brace yourself for a magnificent sunset against Miami's spectacular skyline. At night, head off to the clubs and rub elbows with the rock stars and movie sirens who frequent the night scene. Pop open a bottle of bubbly because the heat is on! As Will Smith famously sings, it goes on all night at the beach till the break of dawn.

But Miami travel is not exclusively for the young and the restless, nor does it have to be a completely physical affair. Take a breather and indulge in flavorful cuisine that fuses cultures and tastes from corners of the world that have flocked to Miami Dade County. Because of its large Latino population, flavors from South America and the Caribbean spice up the menu. Stone crabs is a local favorite; follow that up with some key lime pie and you are golden. A little more adventurous? Try some gator tail. Let me know how that goes.

And speaking of adventure, don't forget to include Mother Nature in your Miami travel plans; you'll be glad you did. The area is rich with adventures unique to Miami Dade's ecological riches. Kayak out to underwater preserves and wreck sites, or snorkel off and meet Miami's underwater inhabitants: spotted leopard rays and bottle-nosed dolphins, and all sorts of colorful marine life. Venture out into a forest of fossils -- petrified mangroves from 1500 years ago.
Miami travel is rife with extraordinary opportunities. Reckless abandon may be the best way to sum up a Miami Florida experience -- whether it be letting loose on the dance floor, flying into the wind and the water, or just getting away from the rest of the world. Just remember at one point during your trip to Miami Florida, to stick your toes in the sand and take a deep breath as you feel the waves lap at your feet. It's quite unforgettable.
