Cabo Roig - The Sparkling Jewel of the Costa Blanca

Cabo Roig - The Sparkling Jewel of the Costa Blanca -

Cabo Roig is an exclusive resort on the southern Costa Blanca coastline, with fantastic, clean "blue flag" beaches and stunning views of the clear blue mediterranean. There is a superb cliff walk from Cabo Roig beach to La Zenia and there are many secluded coves where you can catch the sun with very little company, even during the high season. If you prefer to catch something a little different, the fishing is also excellent and the dorada in particular give a good fight on light gear. The water is clear and ideal for snorkeling and spear fishing. Water skiing, wind surfing, jet skiing and boat-hire are other popular activities available in the area, although soaking up the sun seems to be by far the most popular! Cabo Roig is a mature and established area with attractive, wide, palm lined avenues and a beautiful and exclusive marina. The famous tower around which Cabo Roig grew, is now part of a restaurant overlooking the marina.

Cabo Roig is best known for its superb detached villas. On the beach-side of the N332 there are a large number of detached villas with beautiful landscaped gardens, many with their own private pools. Some of the best villas are those along the cliff walk to La Zenia, they all have fabulous views across to the sports resort of La Manga. Taking this walk, you will really have the feel for "how the other half live" and it is fun to dream about maybe one day owning one of these villas, but for most it remains just that - a dream.

The area enjoys over 300 days of sunshine each year and an average temperature of around 20 degrees centigrade. Cabo Roig boasts some famous inhabitants, with celebrities such as Cilla Black and Terry Wogan owning homes there. Cabo Roig is easily accessible from both Alicante and Murcia airports, Murcia being the closest, taking around 20 minutes by car.and it is only a five minute drive to the nearest motorway. Also in close proximity are 3 popular golf courses at Villa Martin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas, all within a few minutes drive.

If you feel a little more adventurous you may wish to try out the go-karts at Punta Prima, here you can ride on the full size karts or kids can have a go on the mini karts or even the mini quads. In the summer the circus comes to town and this is a huge attraction for the children, being an old style circus, it has plenty of animals performing tricks to amaze and entertain.

A trip into nearby Torrevieja is also essential, with it’s wonderful promenade and marina and it’s many fine beaches. If you are visiting during the summer months, don’t forget the Aqua Splash park with it’s huge slides and super picnic area.

There are a wide range of bars and restaurants in the area, particularly along Cabo Roig strip (sometimes called "Aguamarina strip"), offering a wide range of cuisines including Spanish, Italian, French, Mexican, Chinese, Greek, Hungarian and of course English and Irish. You may just wish to spend lazy days on the beach or by the swimming pool but if your desires are for adventure there is plenty to whet any appetite. If your taste is for culture, the ancient cities of Cartagena, Murcia, Orihuela and Elche are all within an hours drive, all have an interesting history.

The younger at heart may wish to take a trip to the busy resort of Benidorm, a journey of around an hour and a half. Sporting enthusiasts may partake of the golfing, the water sports (the water sport resort of La Manga is only a 40 minute trip), or the fishing – there are angling safaris available for those preferring fresh water fishing. Young or old, individuals, couples or families, whatever your tastes and interests are you will surely to find something to your liking in the hugely popular resort of Cabo Roig - the jewel of the Costa Blanca.
