Kansas, USA, Must Be Seen To Be Appreciated

Fort Scott National Historic Site exhibits US history and depicts the period when the masses were expanding westwards and civil unrest and the civil war later followed them.

The architecture in Kansas can often be French colonial and with Greek revival elements thrown in. The building had to be reconstructed to take it back to its 1840 style look.

One of the best tourist attractions in the state of Kansas is Sedgewick County Zoo, opened in 1971 on 247 acres.

It amasses thousands of animals of different varieties and is ranked as one of the best zoos in the nation.

Fort Larned National Historic Site was originally built in 1859. It was a base for the military against hostile local Indians in the central plains.

It was set up to help the traffic along the Santa Fe Trail and was the quarters from where the administration used to function and be enforced.

It takes you back to the most turbulent times of the US and all the offices and buildings are shown as per their original structure.

Special events are organized every summer making Lovewell State Park a park that should be well liked. Just at the entrance you pick a guide or you can explore the excellent park all by yourselves.

At the Nicodemus National Historic Site, the western style established village built by African-Americans during the restoration period following the civil war. It is a tribute to those who stayed back and gave all possible help to the development of the state.

Topeka Zoological Park is basically a children's zoo that also gets you close to new Black Bear Woods.

Lake Afton Public Observatory presents programs every weekend evenings and educational institutions can book in advance for any day of the week. It provides educational observatory on instructional astronomy games, video tapes and astronomy activities that are used in the classroom.

Old Cowtown Museum tells the story of Wichita and Sedgwick county in Kansas from 1865 to 1880.

Lots of modern space related rockets and shuttles are on display at Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. The world's fastest plane in its time, SR 71 Black Bird spy plane, is also located here.

It has a German room featuring rare V1 and V2 rockets from the Nazi Germany era.

This beautiful Flint Hills park, El Dorado State Park, the most popular state park in Kansas lies some miles northeast of Wichita. It has a unique and different accommodation facility for its guests in its green and watery area.

For outdoor lovers and for those interested in watching wildlife, it may be close to heaven.

It offers different species in many natural habitats, and it especially interesting for fishermen and hard for them to resist coming here.

No doubt Meade State Park is little short in its area, compared to other state parks, however it provides an opportunity for its visitors to have a sweet getaway from the madding crowd of the cities, in a quite secure and peaceful area.

Just at the entrance of Prairie Dog State Park, you pass the dog prairie statue, expecting a thriving dog town ahead. But wait, it is an extra-ordinary park with all the basic facilities that makes prairie dog park a complete park in every aspect.

Excellent out door recreation opportunities are provided at Turtle Creek and it is located on the banks of the second largest lake in the state. All facilities are provided with ample opportunity for hunting.

Cedar Bluffs State Park is by the reservoir of the same name providing an access to the handicapped too.

With all the other amenities it is good for picnicking with your family.

Standing on sandstone bluffs, Kannapolis State Park is divided by a dam and Horsethief Canyon which provides 26 miles of trails for hiking, cycling and horse riding.

It has one of the best state's natural beauty and lots of wildlife areas.

Fall River State Park is settled between cross-timbered Chautauqua Hills on the eastern side and the grasslands of Flint Hills to the west, making it a very picturesque site. Campsites are provided in woodlands and you can rent a canoe and float along the river watching wildlife.

At Perry State Park you will find lots of forestland in the northeast of Kansas, providing bird watching and hunting of various kinds.

You can just camp or make it a base for exploring the local wildlife.

Webster State Park is saddled on the Solomon River Valley and it is between its north and south shores. With all the usual provisions provided it is paradise for fishermen and its location makes it a great sight.

Located just a few miles away from Kansas University, Clinton State Park is a place where all campers and boaters get whatever they could wish for.

Pomona State Park is a place where you can relax in the green woodlands and get educational programs in summer.

Glen Elder State Park is a mixture of fishing facilities and the historic touch featuring the Hopewell Church in 1994 and further improvements are in line too.

Away from the city bustle, Hills Dale is in the midst of hardwood forests. Although it is a new state park it provides all modern amenities.

Eisenhower State Park lies on the edge of Melvern Reservoir, which offers plenty of opportunities for boating and fishing.

Hunting is allowed except in the waterfowl refuge, from where you can watch the teaming wildlife. During summer lots of entertainment and educational programs take place.

So there you are Kansas is a wonderful tourist venue.
