Valentine Breaks For The Broken Hearted
OK, I admit immediately that I am going to sound like some feminist lesbian, or Jo Brand, or both, neither of which is necessarily bad if you happen to belong to either of those two groups. Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and having just recently been ejected out of the love seat, I am properly dreading February the 14th. In an attempt to overcome the heartbreak, and to keep a stiff upper lip in the face of adversity, I am going to damn well check out the Valentine breaks available and treat myself like the princess I am on this romantic day of the year.
Who said that Valentine breaks have to happen between two people in love anyway? What is wrong with taking the opportunity to go somewhere and get pampered while couples across the country are quaffing champagne and eating oysters? There are so many fabulous offers on for mid February breaks that it is hard for a girl to resist booking a boutique hotel in Barbados or a luxury hotel in Luxor. Why not go one step further and take a mate with you, a girl mate that is, that way you can forget together that you are possibly destined for spinster hell a la Patty and Selma Bouvier from The Simpsons, and just enjoy the complementary champagne anyway.
In all honesty, I am personally destined for a Valentine break to Morocco that has become a less romantic event than was originally intended. Yes, since the aforementioned ejection from the love seat, the tickets to this luscious and exotic destination, popular for Valentine breaks, have been wearing a hole in my heart. At first I thought I would just ignore the fact that I booked the tickets and just not turn up to my own holiday. This then turned into a bout of utter anger whereby I decided I would definitely go, and hopefully find a suitable replacement for my ex by the time the plane took off.
Once order had been restored in my somewhat emotional mind, I decided that I would keep the holiday and just get the previous other half's ticket transferred to a friend. Our plan is to go out to Marrakech and make the most of the fabulous atmosphere and forget all about the fact that it is Valentine's Day. It should be a lot easier to do than staying in England; I can't imagine that the traditional market square is home to Clinton Cards peddling plush teddies and cards emblazoned with I Love You. Given that, it is considered one of the most romantic places on the planet. Anyway, Morocco is a Muslim country, and that Valentine's Day has Christian origins, it may well be a welcome twist of fate that I chose to book a romantic holiday for two here just before romance walked out of the door.
We plan to make the most of bubbling spa pools and silken sheets on four poster beds. We will drench ourselves in the scent of lemon trees and jasmine bushes whilst eating fresh picked olives and dates on a veranda that overlooks a stunning sunset, and not once will we weep into our Moroccan mint tea. In fact we will embrace the future and have a good old girlie slumber party. Because, as we all know, it is much more fun to pamper yourself with a friend than a lover; and who knows, by next year, our Valentine breaks my be a more traditional affair of token teddies, and even a toy-boy in tow!
