Eting Out In Barcelona

The success of its amazing plates is based on the quality of the ingredients that are used to make them and the ways in which they are combined. Those factors make the Barcense Cuisine exquisite and healthy, and like that it offers a series of nuances and contrasts to the palate. Eating in Barcelona is magic, you can be eating traditional food, but always you will find a taste of modernity, Barcese cooks have the ability to create spectacular dishes from basic ingredients.

A Catalan taste secret is using natural and seasonal products, over a low flame, and just with the final touch: chopped garlic and almonds, a pinch of vi ranci some thyme or essence of lemon for dishes that appeal to the nose, taste buds and eyes.

Olive oil, fruit, vegetables and greens, fresh fish and shellfish, salt cod, nuts and dried fruits, pork, herbs and a variety of baked goods make up the basis of the Barcelona's cuisine. All that sounds great, but is still missing something; the fine taste of those wonders would not be the same if they were not accompanied by the dry or sweet flavor of a good wine. Yes, as in pretty much every single good cuisine in the world, the wine could not be absent.

On the one hand we have wines from the Priorat, the Penedes or Alella -all of them made with the most traditional Catalan grapes- and in the other hand, the wide range of international renowned caves such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

At present, not even culinary has been saved from the globalization claws, for that reason is not weird to find in Barcelona, food for all over the world, from, Asian food to the traditional American fast food. And it is not false that depending on your budget you can eat a la carta or not do it so. Eatin a la carta in Barcelona in an acceptable place costs at least 20-24 Euros, but you can eat at fix price restaurants, where the meal is about 10 euros. The point to stand out here is the fact that Barcelona, as an international city offers international food, and we as visitors want to try typical food. Sometimes is better to go to some popular restaurants, which by the way are not as expensive as the luxurious ones.

Some places we dare to recommend you are the Cases Regionals, where you will be able to get food for all the regions of Spain in the same place.

Casa de Andalucia, in Via Laietana, gazpacho, pescado frito, and squid; Casa de Madrid, in Ausias March, cocido (stew) and callos (tripe); Casa de Valencia, in Corsega, rice dishes and paellas; Centro Asturiano, in Passeig de Gracia, fabada asturiana and codfish (bacalao) with potent cabrales cheese sauce;Centro Galego, in La Rambla, empanadas and shellfish; La Casa de los Navarros, in Passeig de Maragall, the freshest vegetables...

if you like snails, Barcelona has the typical of the Province Lleida, Atenas, in Carrer de Atenes, it is served in more than twenty different formats. If what you like is the rice dishes of inland Alicante, it is a must to visit El Rair, in Carrer de Tamarit. Good shellfish for a fair price go to A Estrella Galega, in Rosal de Castro. Galician cuisine is Carballeira in Carrer de la Reina Cristina, there you can find a good deal too. Euskal Etxea, in Placeta de Montcada, serves as the the Basque cultural centre, but also is good to get pinchos vascos.
