Like Romantic Hotels? Marrakech Is A Matchmakers Heaven
It has been said that I am an incurable romantic. I love to be lavished with flowers, and presented with boxes of chocolates wrapped in a big red bow. Being whisked away on romantic breaks and serenaded with beautiful love songs makes my heart skip a beat. A champagne dinner followed by a walk into the sunset is my ideal date. I am so high maintenance that even the Milk Tray man would have trouble impressing me.
It would take an awful lot for Mr Right to whisk me off my pretty little princess feet. He would have to arrange a trip dripping with romance beyond my fairytale dreams and keep me occupied every minute of the day. My fairy godmother would need to be consulted and he would need more than three wishes from the genie in the lamp to match my expectations. To gain my attention and affection, he would need to conjure a romantic break so magical that it would make me weep for joy.
Although based on sky high ideals and childhood fantasy, it is actually possible to have such a dream come true. A romantic break in Morocco is the perfect setting. Land of Aladdin and exotic opportunity, Morocco offers a sultry sanctuary for a pair of love birds to escape to for a luxurious date, honeymoon or anniversary. There is a lot to do and sunsets a plenty from the famous market in Marrakech to the Atlantic shores of Casablanca and the dramatic dunes of the desert.
The hotels in Marrakech are full of eastern promise and have an atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic break. Having a luxurious love-nest to retreat to will be a welcome break from the intense afternoon heat, as temperatures can reach a whopping forty degrees during the summer months. Traditional courtyard guesthouses are popular retreats for visitors to the city, and offer an all inclusive service that anticipates your every need, leaving you and your loved one to concentrate on each other.
A visit to the main souk, or market will make you feel like you've landed a part in a Hollywood blockbuster or been sucked into the pages of a novel. Snake charmers and dancers are there day and night, as are stalls peddling magic potions and exotic spices. There is plenty of chance to barter for goods of finest jewellery and hand made silks until sundown when the market takes on a whole new life. In the evening musical entertainment comes into its own and the market transforms into a giant outdoor eatery. Workshops and shrines integrate with street theatre to create an atmosphere that is as unique as the cuisine. For the exceptionally brave, sheep head soup could be just what you need to stir up the passion; oysters are so last season!
To fulfil the ultimate romantic gesture book a trip in to the desert to sleep under the stars. Morocco is famed for its caravan culture and there are plenty of traditional Berber guides that will escort you into the dunes. Alternatively, take a trip to the nearby Ourika River that is in the valley of the Atlas Mountains a mere 30 KM away from Marrakech itself for stunning views and a break from all the sand. From rock stars, to poets and hedonists on the hippie trail, Marrakech has been an exotic destination for decades; and how can that many cool people be wrong. Whatever your romantic ideals are, there is always a fairytale ending with the magic of Morocco, a destination that fulfils desire.
