Review On BusTravel From Pune

Pune formerly Poona) is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra in western India, around 160 kilometers southeast of the state capital, Mumbai. Situated 560 metres above sea level on the Deccan plateau at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha river , Pune is the administrative capital of Pune district and the eighth most populous metropolitan area in India. Pune is known to have existed as a town since 937 AD. Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire, lived in Pune as a boy, and later oversaw significant growth and development of the town during his reign. In 1730, Pune became an important political centre as the seat of the Peshwa, the prime minister of the Chhatrapati of Satara.

After the town was annexed to British India in 1817, it served as a cantonment town and as the monsoon capital of the Bombay Presidency until the independence of India. In independent India, Pune is known for its educational facilities, having more than a hundred educational institutes and nine universities. It also boasts a growing industrial hinterland, with many information technology and automotive companies setting up factories in Pune district. Pune relies largely on roads for transport within the city, it was the first city in India to have a Bus Rapid Trabsit. It is well connected to all the other cities in India by road, rail and airline connections. Although it has an international airport, there are only two direct international flights, to Dubai and Frankfurt. The Pune-Singapore service was suspended.

The city of Pune in India is the first to experiment with a Bus Rapid Transit system. PMT started plying pilot routes in December 2006. But this is a flop project in Pune and is adding lots of chaos to road traffic. However on Pune-Satara Road area this project has achieved some success as the time of travelling by bus has been reduced. The PMT, or Pune Municipal Transport, also known as Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd or PMPML, is the public transport service provider for the city of Pune in India. The PMT currently operates 818 buses operating 63.4 million km of route and transports approximately 0.23 billion passengers per annum. Bus fares are charged on the basis of km travelled, and range from the minimum fare of 1.4 Rs. for 2 km to 14.85 Rs. for a journey of 60 km.

Bus rapid transit (BRT) is a broad term given to a variety of transportation systems that, through improvements to infrastructure, vehicles and scheduling, attempt to use buses to provide a service that is of a higher quality than an ordinary bus line. Each BRT system uses different improvements, although many improvements are shared by many BRT systems. The goal of such systems is to at least approach the service quality of rail transit while still enjoying the cost savings of bus transit. The expression BRT is mainly used in North America, in Europe and Australia, it is often called a busway, while elsewhere, one may speak of quality bus or simply bus service while raising the quality. A bus (or omnibus or autobus) is a road vehicle designed to carry many passengers. A bus can generally seat more passengers than a minivan, and is used for transporation.

Buses are the most widely used mode of public transport, although buses also see use in a number of other applications, notably in tourism and as private transport. Buses come in various shapes and sizes, and can carry anywhere from 8 to 200 passengers, in varying levels of comfort. The most common type of bus is the single-decker bus, with larger loads carried by double decker buses and articulated buses, and smaller loads carried by midibuses and minibuses. A more luxurious version of all sizes of bus is the coach. Buses are usually powered by a diesel engine, although early buses were horse drawn, and experiments with steam buses also occurred. In parallel to the fully mobile bus, was use of the trolleybus.
