Spoilt For Choice With Property In Italy
Who does not have a dream of owning a home abroad? As dreary wet afternoons hold us hostage in our urban abodes, fantasies flood our mind of escaping to our own private sunny Idaho on shores far away. To jump on plane with only hand-luggage because all we need is already waiting for us on our arrival. No surrounding motorways and hundreds of other terraced houses under a grey sky. This home sits in the mountains, under the glisten of the Mediterranean sun. This home, at least in my dreams, is my very own Property in Italy.
With such an incredible selection of stunning property, from flats in Florence to Italy's most beautiful farmhouses, chalets in the Alps to holiday villas in Umbria, buyers looking to invest in the property market in Italy are more than spoilt for choice.
For me, my property would be located in Abruzzo, in the alpine settings, with nothing but beauty and adventure surrounding me. The dramatic hilly landscape makes it ideal terrain for adventurous hikers and cyclists, while its mountains are immensely popular with skiers. Abruzzo is simply one spectacular landscape after another, soaring hills and mountains towering over canyons, lakes and rivers. If you are like me and prefer the idea of buying a property in Italy that is off the well trodden tourist trail, then Abruzzos lower property prices will also be attractive to you, a fraction of what they are a couple of hundred miles north in Tuscany.
Alternatively if a little more of Italy's famous architecture and culture is what you desire, you may chose to buy your Italian property in Apulia. Populated with cathedrals and castles dating as far back as the 10th century, Apulia will also delight visitors with its Greek and Roman remains and barocco leccese, intricate carvings covering palaces and churches. Another architectural must-see are trulli, conical stone structures that serve as olive and wheat barns. However, in some places they are built in clusters of hundreds and used as houses, as in the wonderfully quaint town of Alberobello.
Wine lovers will also revel in the surroundings, as Apulia produces one in 10 of all bottles of wine drunk in Europe. If you are looking for somewhere to relax and perhaps find inspiration, a property in Apulia could be for you.
Finally, for those dreaming of lazy days spent soaking up the sun on golden sandy beaches, then start your search in Sardinia. The Mediterranean's second largest island, Sardinia's 1,100-mile coast ranges from the spectacular rocky cliffs and coves of the north to the inviting sandy beaches of the south. Not many locations can boast an average 10 months of bright sunshine a year.
From the Costa Rei's Beaches of white sand and clear turquoise waters to the extensive ochre coloured beaches of Torresalinas to the towering white sand dunes of Baia Chia, your hardest decision will not be finding an ideal beachfront property, but deciding which of the many to put your money on.
Buying a property in Italy requires a lot of careful research and planning. It is certainly advisable to make sure you have visited not only the location but also the property before you sign on the dotted line. Whether you're looking for somewhere well-known for its fashion, its world class cuisine, spectacular white beaches or instantly recognised architecture, Italy really does have it all. With a mass of different stunning locations as well as a huge variety in property styles, property in Italy caters for all different styles and budgets and allows you to be as active or inactive as you chose.
