The Pleasures Of Staying In The Country

While the majority of us when we holiday find it hard to get away from the usual tourist destinations, it is highly advisable to do this. To get the best of a country you must head out into the countryside and sample the rural way of life. A hotel in the country will also normally be cheaper than its city counterpart meaning that you will get a better deal and have more money for your trip.

The city may contain the most sites and the more interesting attractions but do you really want to spend your time staying in a hotel located in a hot and stuffy city when you could be in the country, away from the hustle and bustle staying in a charming hotel? The country is also a place to get a brilliant idea of the culture of a nation; after all, cities normally have a persona of their own, disparate from that of the nation. The countryside is often unique, and gives a far better representation of the culture and way of life.

While in the city you may have many modern, purpose built hotels that can often be characterless; whilst the country has many hotels of considerable age and heritage. Just speaking from my experience of the coaching inns in England; these buildings have large amounts of character and are the ideal hotel for exploring the English countryside. This character is usually accompanied by quality home cooked food and wonderful local company.

This is not just true for a country hotel in England though, places such as Brittany, Tuscany and even in the US benefit from fabulous home run hotels that provide excellent service. Having stayed in Tuscany on a number of occasions I know it is advisable to stay in the countryside rather than the cities. For instance, the main city of Tuscany, Florence actually trebles its population during the high tourist season. For this reason alone I see it as worthwhile to stay in one of the many fine country farm hotels that provide escapism and relaxation away from the rest of the tourists.

For romance, a hotel in the country can be ideal. While some may see the city as a romantic tourist destination; to be out in the country relaxing, is the most romantic it can get. With a fine hotel suite and naturally, a four poster bed your stay can be luxurious, without having to pay a king's ransom. It can also give you time to yourself, not having to contend with transport and the bustle, letting you as a couple devote as much time to each other as possible while on your trip.

But for me there is one reason above all others why I would choose to stay in the country over the city. Maybe I am just a country boy but the countryside, the rolling hills, and swathes of greenery are enough to keep me satisfied. The countryside has all the benefits of fresh clean air, beautiful scenery and the simple pursuits of walking and cycling that fulfil the basic desires. This is true not just of England but all around the world, the cityscape is a sign of modernity that should be disregarded when we are trying to relax; scenic rural views have immeasurable delights that cannot be matched in the city.

So next time you are thinking about booking a holiday, before you are drawn to a city or a major tourist site think about the country and take a holiday that may prove to be that little more special and ultimately more worthwhile.
