Train From Leeds To London

Leeds pronunciation is located on the River Aire in West Yorkshire, England. It is the urban core and administrative centre of the wider metropolitan borough of the City of Leeds. The county borough of Leeds was awarded city status in 1893, but in 1974 this status was transferred to the larger new metropolitan borough named City of Leeds. Thus Leeds, although commonly referred to as a city, does not have this legal status unless the wider area is being discussed.

According to the 2001 UK census, the population of the Leeds Urban Sub-division (an ONS measure was 443,247,whereas the wider City of Leeds metropolitan district has a population of 761,200 (mid-2007 estimate) and is one of the eight largest English cities outside London that form the English Core Cities Group. It is near the centre of the West Yorkshire metropolitan county which has a population of over 2.1 million.

Leeds Bradford International Airport (IATA: LBA, ICAO: EGNM) is located in the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. The nearest town is Yeadon, and the airport is sometimes locally referred to as Yeadon airport. It serves the cities of Leeds and Bradford, as well as the wider Yorkshire region. The airport was in public ownership until May 2007, when it was sold for 145.5 million. Leeds Bradford has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P800) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction. The airport is also the highest in England at an elevation of 681ft.

The rail network is still of great importance. Leeds railway station at New Station Street is one of the busiest in the UK outside central London, with around 1000 trains serving the 50,000 passengers who pass through the main ticket gates daily. Its modern interior provides connections to London, Southampton and the south, Birmingham and the Midlands, Bristol and the West Country and Newcastle via Cross Country.

Edinburgh and the north can be accessed via Cross Country or National Express East Coast services to Aberdeen, although changes are often required at York or Newcastle. Manchester, Liverpool and the west are accessible by First Transpennine Express, as are Scarborough and Hull in the east. There are connections by Northern Rail to many villages, towns and cities in the region.

First TransPennine Express is a train operating company in the United Kingdom. It is a joint operation between First Group (55%) and Keolis (45%.) It operates regular services in the north including services linking the west and east coasts of England across the Pennines. The franchise will run for eight years with an optional extension of five years. It is also the terminus for trains running on the scenic Settle to Carlisle line, as well as the hub of an extensive Metro Train commuter network. It is located on New Station Street to the south of City Square, at the bottom of Park Row, behind the landmark Queens Hotel.

The city's reputation was forged as a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution in England, a fact which led to Birmingham being known as the workshop of the world or the city of a thousand trades Although Birmingham's industrial importance has declined, it has developed into a national commercial centre, being named as the third best place in the United Kingdom to locate a business, and the 21st best in Europe by Cushman and Wakefield in 2007.
