What The Guide Books Don't Tell You

January is upon us and this is traditionally the time of year when people's thoughts are turning to booking their annual holiday. There is no escaping the fact that the recession has hit the holiday industry hard, but in the typical British way, the masses are trying hard to buck the trend and pretend everything is hunk dory. Pretending something is not happening - or sticking your head in the san - is a good way of getting by.

Many people see this as a fools way of 'getting by' but why should it be considered so? So, the economy's not great but it never picked up from people staying at home being miserable so why not just take the bull by the horns and book that holiday. One that will properly re-charge your batteries and empower you to get back in the saddle as soon as you get home.

But where are you going to find a holiday that can inspire you so? Well, the attitude of Brazilians is key to deciding the best destination.

These people have a laid back attitude that would put most other countries to shame. Their outlook is completely unique and their zest for life to be lived for fun is very catching. Take a Brazil holiday and you will see just what I mean.

On a Brazil holiday you have no choice but to just go with the flow. There is no chance of you ever being able to rush anyone. Nobody hurries in this country and the expression 'to chill' could only have come from here.

You may initially find it frustrating that things are jumped to immediately on a Brazil holiday, this is because of the way us Brits are trained in thinking that everything has to be done today. However, after a while you will soon relax into the swing of things. After all, what is a holiday for if you can't relax?

Spanning four different time zones, Brazil is a huge place but there are some common mis-conceptions that you might like to re-consider before you decide on whether to take a Brazil holiday:

Brazil is not all rainforest. It may hold sixty percent of the Amazon but the cities are not near this area. It is not always enjoying tropical temperatures and it will rain just as heavy in summer as it will in winter.

Despite the occasional bad press, Brazilian authorities come down just as hard on drug offences as the UK or US. It is no more dangerous there due to drugs than it is anywhere else.

Brazil is not the place of dusty mud huts that you may think from stories of old. It has a thriving nightlife, colourful cities and some of the most amazing shopping malls that you will find throughout the world as well as restaurants, hotels and concert halls.

Teach yourself a little Portuguese before your Brazil holiday and you will make friends. Portuguese is the main language of this country and it makes Brazilians happy if visitors try to fit in.

So, there you have a version of the things you can expect to experience that the guide books might not tell you. A Brazil holiday will offer you a wonderfully laid back, relaxing experience in a country of happy, relaxed people but don't believe all the myths - take a look for yourself at all the wonderful things the country has to offer.
