Tribal Tattoos Arent For Everyone

I mean this in the best way possible. I swear! A lot of the Tribal tattoos that are available were first originated by Polynesian and Hawaiian warriors. And yes, they do symbolize masculinity, power, and force. I think these types of tattoos best fit a man but hey, to each his own? If you are interested in getting a Tribal tattoo, one thing I would suggest would be to check out the history of these tattoos because like the Celtic tats the history really is an interesting one.

Heck, maybe it will make you want a tribal tattoo even more! Tattooing was shared among Polynesian individuals and among distinct tribal groups in the Philippines, Borneo, Mentawai Islands, Africa, North America, South America, Mesoamerica, Europe, Japan, Cambodia, New Zealand and Micronesia. Despite some taboos surrounding tattooing, this kind of art continues to be popular in many parts of the world.

When it comes to tattoos it's like an art of sorts - there are all kinds of different "styles" and many different kinds of artists. The Tribal is the single most requested tattoo design. The most popular tribal designs are Maori, Haida and Polynesian designs. There is also great interest in Native American tattoo designs.

The term "tribal" of course covers an impressive regalia of tattoo design possibilities, from the traditional tribal tattoos of indigenous and aboriginal cultures, to the latest in graphic design for the body! If you are interested in this type of tattoos I would suggest checking out the following types of cultures for the tribal tattoo options. At least this will give you a good idea before you actually make a solid choice.

Borneo tattoos are from the islands of Indonesia/Malaysia. The tattoos of this tribe are believed to protect against diseases and pain. Most members of this particular tribe shared the same style of tattoo. The practice of tattoos in Borneo has a rich tradition going back centuries and still seems to be alive and well. Borneo is the third largest island in the world and is a hostile region with few Westerners venturing in.

As a result descriptions of tattoos were rare before the start of the twentieth century. There were many accounts of headhunting amongst the indigenous people which put off a lot of people from getting very far but fortunately since the colonization by the Dutch this practice has been outlawed!

Maori Tattoos originated from the people of New Zealand. The tattoos of this tribe were called Ta Moko, and were used to carve family history into their skin. Maori tattoos are among the most distinctive tattoos in the world and have their own identity amongst the Polynesian tattoos. Tattooing is a sacred art among the Maori people of New Zealand, and probably came to them from the islands of East Polynesia. Maori tattoo art is very beautiful, consisting of curved shapes and spirals in intricate patterns. Distinctive for Maori tattoo designs is the fact that they are based on the spiral and that they are curvilinear. The most prevalent place for a Maori tattoo was the face, probably a result of the cool New Zealand climate.

Native American tattoos were used for identification purposes as well as for protection. Tattoos were also believed to have magical powers in the Native American culture. Much like tattoos designs described as "Polynesian tattooing" - is an enormous area of tattooing culture to cover. As in Polynesia with the many diverse far-flung cultures of the South Pacific, native North America was and is made up of hundreds and hundreds of culturally distinctive indigenous peoples.

Chinese tribal tattoos were not as popular as many other tribal tattoos and tattoos were not really admired by society. Therefore, only a small percentage of the Chinese culture was tatted. The most noted Chinese tribes were that of Drung, Dai and Li. Chinese characters are beautiful little pieces of art. They are exotic and mysterious, what makes them very suitable for a tattoo design. Interestingly though, tattoos have quite a negative connotation in traditional Chinese culture. In fact, there was a belief that the body is a sacred gift from one's parents and should not be altered in any permanent way - which of course includes tattooing.
