4 Great Date Movies

There are date movies... and then there are date movies. And while pretty much anything with romantic overtones can be great for a date, some date movies are better than others. Especially in certain situations. Below, you'll find our listing of the four great date movies for four unique dating situations. Because sometimes "Pretty Woman" just won't cut it.

Movie 1: Jerry Maguire (1996)
Watch it When: You want to compromise

Directed by Cameron Crowe, "Jerry Maguire" is the story of a jaded and selfish sports agent and his fall from grace. And of the woman who helps him pick himself back up and change his life for the better.

"Jerry Maguire" is one of those romantic date movies that has something for everybody. For the girls, there's handsome Tom Cruise (before he went nuts and started leaping around on sofas), a "regular girl gets the guy" story, and a little boy that's too cute to be believed. For guys, there's lots of sports, including great football scenes and cameos by sport legends, and a great story that's not too sickly-sweet. So if you can't decide between "The Notebook" and "Die Hard," this movie is an easy compromise to make.

Movie 2: Say Anything (1989)
Watch it When: You're feeling romantic

"Say Anything" is, funnily enough, another great date movie directed by Cameron Crowe. A sort of reverse Cinderella story, "Say Anything" tells the story of nice-guy everyman Lloyd Dobler and the school beauty, Diane Court. If you're a nice guy like Lloyd, "Say Anything" is the perfect movie to watch with somebody you're dating-- it's a great way to show off how great dating a real nice guy can be. I don't think there's a girl out there that doesn't sigh gently at the idea of sweet but average Lloyd Dobler. Plus, the sex scene in this flick is both steamy and sweet.

Movie 3: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Watch it When: Your relationship is in a rough patch

All relationships go through their ups and their downs. In "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," directed by Michael Gondry and written by the quirky Charlie Kaufman, one man relives his entire failed relationship in the quest to forget it ever happened. In reliving it, he realizes that every good moment with his ex-girlfriend made every bad moment worth bearing, and learns to appreciate his relationship for what it was. This is a beautiful, strange, funny movie about what makes relationships worth having in the first place. It's a great flick to remind you of why you're together in the first place, and may even help you get over a little rough patch. A wonderful make-up film!

Movie 4: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)
Watch it When: You want to get hot and bothered

For a date movie, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" has more than its fair share of explosions, gun-shots, and straight-out beatings. But for all that, this movie is one of the hottest date movies ever made. Telling the story of (who else?) Mr. and Mrs. Smith, two secret assassins working for opposing companies, this movie stars two of the best-looking people ever to stroll across the silver screen: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. These two provide eye candy for both girls and guys, and their chemistry on-screen is so hot it sizzles. Especially when you know that this is the movie where the met and eventually hooked up. In short, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" is the kind of movie that will have you ripping each other's clothes off the moment the credits roll.
