What makes a good relationship?

This is a difficult question to answer because there are a ton of different answers. A good relationship to one person is not so great to another and vice versa. Some people are totally content with an online or distance relationship while, for others, that would be a nightmare. What makes a good relationship is whatever makes you happy.

Your partner should make you feel good about yourself!

When you are dating someone, you should feel good around him or her. Someone that makes you feel good and you long to see again. This is not to say that once in a while you will not have a bad day, but you should not be made to feel less than adequate or self conscious around them. If you do, then dump them before it gets any worse. If they do not think highly of you at this point, they probably will not in a few years either.

Tell It Like It Is

You should not be catching your partner in a ton of untruths or stories that just do not add up. Any relationship must be based on honesty and if it is not it will likely fail. Of course, honesty is on everyones list of relationship requirements and for good reason. This does not mean that your partner has to express their every waking thought or feeling, but they do need to disclose things that matter. For example, talking to others, seeing others and/or anything that could change the course of the relationship. This is not a one way street, you must also be honest, and you can not expect them to be honest when you are feeding them full of untruths.

Do Not Expect Too Much But Just Enough

Sometimes new relationships fail because the two people either expect entirely too much or not enough. Do not ask your partner to do anything that you would not do yourself. Do not try to change a person into something that you want. If they are not the one then move on to someone else, not only can this hurt the both of you, it is a waste of time. Do expect respect, honesty and love from a relationship. One with less is no good and will leave you heart broken and alone.

Take Your Time

As you will read on any dating tips for teens, take your time and do not get into a rush. Love will come if this is the right person, but do not force the issue. Spend time together and get to know one another, but do not push for marriage or kids. There is plenty of time to be serious and you can get married later, have fun playing the field. One of the biggest mistakes of teens is moving too fast, remember there are a ton of other people that you can have a relationship and good time with. Do not put all your energy and faith into one person until you really know that he/she is the right one for you.

Learn From Experience

Learn from your past dating experiences. If you went through a bad time, then learn from it so that you can avoid it happening again. If you do not take the time to figure out what went wrong and change it, then it will likely happen again! Also, if you run into problems in a relationship and are having trouble knowing what to do, ask for help. Sometimes these things can sneak up on us and get out of control. Find someone that you trust that has been through dating dilemmas themselves and talk to them about the situation.
