Protecting Yourself From Russian Women Scams

A few days ago my wife and I were eating at a local pizza place (the little one was not there, she was in school). We overheard a man talking about how he was writing to a woman overseas. After listening a bit more, we discover she is Ukrainian (as is my wife).

To briefly describe this man's situation. He has been writing to this woman for 3 years. They write EVERY day. However, he has never been over there to meet her. He obviously thinks she is real, because (his words now), she picked me. On top of all this, she
lives in a city in Ukraine which has an overabundance of scammers and is using a very questionable Russian marriage agency.

He would not even tell me his age. When I asked, he literally told me why does that matter? I hope YOU understand why the age difference matters. The bottom line is that this man was at least 45 and the woman is in her early 20s, at least a 20 year age difference. That type of implied incompatibility is hard to overcome.

What really burned me about this situation is not the fact that this man was so obviously being scammed. It is not even the fact that he doesn't know he is being scammed. It is that fact that we were right there in front of him trying to help him! My wife was indisputable proof that we knew what we were talking about!

Yet, even after knowing what that I married a Ukrainian woman, and have been over there at least 14 times in the last few years, he still would not take any kind of advice!

When asked why he had not gone to visit her yet, he claimed it was a money issue. Yet he is spending $7 per letter. At $7 a day (and this is assuming he only has to pay one way, it is possible they charge him for her letters to him as well), he has spent over $6,000! That is certainly enough for at least one trip to Russia or Ukraine....probably even two trips.

How sad. I feel sorry for the guy. What has happened to him is the classic interpreter scam.

His defense, of course, was that she is a good girl. And that his woman would never do anything unbecoming. Yes, I am sure. After all, the interpreter would see to that!

It appears that most men seeking a Russian woman are really not interested in getting advice. Most men are really independent and think that they can navigate
these waters on their own, without help, without any guides, totally alone. They feel that because they are in America or Canada or another developed western country, they are protected. That there is no way they could be scammed or taken advantage of.

After all, we have the Better Business Bureau, the FTC, and other protections. Not to mention the fact that most agencies offer a satisfaction guarantee (most do not, by the way, take a look at the fine print for yourself some time), or so they think. In fact, it is my firm opinion that most men do not even consider the possibility that this industry is big business, that there could be companies and other people or groups out there just doing this to defraud
people.

I also firmly believe that most of the fraud and scams in this area originate more from the agencies or from criminal groups, not from individual women. Certainly from time to time a woman will try to scam a man, but it is usually on a very low level. Like a money for
tickets and visa scam, or a money for internet or operation type of deal. The ones that are very easy to spot. However, most of the time it will be an agency posting phantom pictures (usually that they stole, perhaps from another agency or even a magazine!), or doing some other nasty tactic.

This is why you need to learn how to find an honest
agency and also verify that the woman you are writing to is real, knows who you are, and is really interested in you. Until you have taken all of these steps, you do not know who you are dealing with.

Once you know how to do all of this, you have a GREAT chance of finding an excellent woman. Someone who will keep you happy for the rest of your life.
