Understanding Confidence in Romance

It is often commonly understood that those people who act in a confident way are well received by others. In the dating world confidence is often an essential key in meeting new people. Despite this obvious correlation, many people fail to realize just why this is a necessary component and in doing so find themselves unable to approach others when in social environments.

For many years people have understood that a more confident attitude affects how others perceive a person and the lack of such an attribute can be very inhibiting. Why does this apply to the dating world? Is it important to mix confidence with romance? Definitely!

Keep in mind that when you approach a person for the first time you are complete strangers to each other. Within the first few second of meeting a person judgments are being made based solely on appearance and while for some this may apply to the social standard of attractiveness, there is a great deal more going on under the surface.

* How others see you: Good posture is an indication of a confident person and paying attention to this detail alone may improve you appearance to others. When people are nervous in social situations they often lower their shoulders and slouch down in seats. The result of such an action is noticed by others even in the most subtle of ways. Why does this turn people away? When you show others physical signs that you have doubt they begin to wonder why; this physical sign alone can tell a person that you do not believe that you have anything to offer them and that it would benefit them more to stay away. While this is certainly not what most people wish others to think, the communication is often clear and disappointing.

* How you see yourself: The way in which you view your life has a profound effect on how others see you, even if you might not think the signs are obvious. If during conversations you tend to draw constant attention those area in which you feel that you're lacking, others may begin to believe that it's true.

The best way to show others that you are a confident person is to be one and though this may take time to accomplish, the results will often be an overall life improvement.

While it seems perfectly understandable, that in the dating world most people are hoping that their matchmaking choices will be the very best, this kind of pressure can force some to feel constantly insecure. Whether you're trying to find a person to share your life with, or simply looking for a fun companion, it is important to remember that people are unique and are often looking for different qualities in others.

Another important factor to keep in mind, when questioning the importance of confidence on the dating scene, is the perception that most people share. While one person may appreciate a unique quality that you posses, it may take time for that person to understand its' value. Traits that others might consider strange, or uncommon, are often better revealed once others have been given the opportunity to get to know you. This is not to say that a person should hide their unique qualities, but rather that they should remember that another person's perception of those qualities might be a poor assumption.

A good way to gauge just how some of your more unusual personality traits might be view by strangers is to try and see if from their point of view. Without an understanding of you as a whole, how will these traits come across? If you find that without the entire picture being revealed you too might shy away from such a person, perhaps you should hold back a bit until that stranger understands your personality better.

Because so many people try to present their best qualities when dating, a lack of confidence often creates a poor atmosphere for romance. An obvious case of insecurity may force the other person to question how valuable you might be in a relationship. Another assumption that is often made in these circumstances is that insecurity is brought on by a host of other problems, which quickly turns dating you, into helping you; an idea that many people might not find appealing.

Showing others that you have your life together by acting in a confident and positive way often allows them to feel excited about getting know you. Such qualities as strength and dependability, which many people find attractive, are often included in confidence.

An overinflated ego or pretense of confidence will often yield poor results. Vanity in excess is often just as repulsive, if not more so, than insecurity and pretending to be confident in order to win a date will likely lead to disaster.

Becoming a more confident and positive person is an undertaking that many people experience in their life time and certainly can be a difficult road to take. Leaning on those whom you love and trust may help you through this time if you have great challenges to face, but above all you should make changes to your life to please one person: you. Reshaping who you are because you believe it will attract a certain type of person is often a poor way to get results. Once you make the decision to change for yourself, or to accept and be happy with who you are, you may find that finding the romance isn't hard at all.
