Polish Women and Their Role in Society

It was a resoundingly phenomenal and influential demonstration of the women's conspiracy for independence. It brought about serious qualitative changes.

The challenging outlook of Polish women to the 1848-1849 Revolution should be taken in the perspective of the setting free of women in the Polish lands as having occurred first and foremost as a joint fight with men for independence of the country.

The women's emancipation movement was established in the late 1830's and early 1940's with Warsaw and Poznan being the major centers.

Polish women will never be understood in the truest sense of the word if you don't go back to their history. Historical facts can give reasons for present situation formation.

Polish women scattered all over Polish regions took part in the initiative. Most prominent of those were Polish women from Cracow and Lviv. There were attempts to draw peasant women to the organization. There was not telling in history that it was successful. The activity ended in the summer of 1848.

Several women were into the observance of the ideals of independence. They distributed illegal literature or hosting emissaries in their homes.

Most popular of these occurrences were those involving Anna Rocyzka. She was a general's daughter and was arrested by Austrian authorities in Cracow in 1852. In the region of Galicia a very active group comprised of courageous and intelligent women.

But today the Polish women have come a long way. In the mid70s Polish women were into professions which otherwise were for men. In the police workforce alone nearly half was made up of women.

It was also during this time that women were offered more opportunities for higher education and employment as compared to most European countries. In between those years there were about 681,000 women graduates from college.

Professions like engineering, architecture, and university teaching have most women employed than men. It also included careers in health, finance, social security, education and retail sales.

It was a slow rise to where the Polish women are in now. In 1992 the country elected its first woman Prime Minister Hanna Suchoka.

Although women were not yet occupying top slots with government slowly but sure Polish women are inching their way into the political system of the country.

However male dominance did women in by limiting the opportunities for their advancement in fields where men excel most. Polish society emphasized even more when women were relegated to raising kids and caring for their husbands.

Communism then brought the Polish women out of their homes and, made them worked out it. But post communism era made the women returned to their homes and revived the weakened Polish family because of their continued absence at home.

The Polish women of today after the struggle to find a place under different regimes have flourished and are ready to tackle any challenge hurled at them in the raging drama called life.

They have been polished to what they have become today. Today Polish women can compete with the rest of women in the west. Their charm can compare to none. And Polish women have been hailed as one of the most beautiful women in the world today.

I'm doing research on how American foreign policy affects popular support for terrorism. My theory is that America’s hegemonic activity fuels popular support for terrorism, but I need data to support that hypothesis. I plan to conduct a large international survey in order to collect that data. Before I conduct the survey, however, I need to devise a survey instrument that is non-biased (non-western, non-white). I strongly believe that the biggest reason that America is losing the war on terror is that we aren’t listening to the people that matter the most—everyone else. The same principal applies to my survey: it won’t do any good if I’m not asking the right questions.

So I’m asking for your help.

I’ve put together a pre-survey questionnaire to help fashion a survey that hopefully will ask the right questions― one that takes race, religion, and gender issues into consideration rather than just making the same old geopolitical assumptions that political scientists in my field tend to make. I’m particularly interested in incorporating the views of women, non-whites, and people living outside of America and Western Europe. The final survey will go out once the pre-survey data has been collected and analyzed.
