Giving Your Groomsmen Their Due

So you have finally found your soul mate and you are ready to walk down the aisle. Your bride-to-be is probably busy planning her dream wedding and finding the perfect gown. She barely has time to go out anymore because the wedding is taking up so much time.

While the brides family is responsible for most of the wedding decisions, you still have a few tasks to complete before you can officially get married. Though you are not likely to be as busy as your bride in the months leading up to the wedding, you will have to carry out your responsibilities flawlessly so your bride does not get upset. Your first job will be selecting gifts for all of your groomsmen.

Fishing Rods & Wedding Gifts? - An Unlikely Mix
Giving gifts to the wedding party is a long standing tradition. Were you thinking along the lines of presenting your friends with a fishing rod or a perhaps treating them to a free round of drinks? Ouch! That could be a big mistake. Wedding related gift giving has a lot of significance. You do not just swing it. You need to buy something really nice for all the men who will be wearing neck ties and tuxedos to your wedding.

Make it Special- Engrave It!
Most grooms choose to give something that is engraved or personalized. Brides tend to think you put a lot of time and effort into the gifts if they are engraved with the names of your groomsmen. Engraving is a great way to turn something ordinary like a flask or a pocketknife into a very special keepsake.

You should go ahead and order the gifts at least eight to ten weeks before your wedding. Sometimes companies can have items on backorder or shipping could take longer than expected. You dont want to risk running out of time to get the items engraved. If you are engraving several gifts, the personalization shop will probably need at least a week to get them all done. If you plan ahead, this wont be a big deal. Just choose your gifts and get them engraved as soon as you can.

Hate Shopping? Then: Go Online!
If you hate shopping as most men do, then the internet can be the perfect place to find great groomsmen gifts. Some websites offer a variety of items that can be engraved before they ship them to you. Make sure you type in the names of your groomsmen carefully and avoid any typos. Your bride wont be happy if her brothers gift says Ted instead of Ed!

Men DO Cry Too!
Wedding tradition dictates how the groomsmen gifts are given. The evening before your wedding, your family is supposed to host a big rehearsal dinner. Everyone will be there and you will have the perfect opportunity to hand out your gifts and even give a sentimental little speech about how much the guys have meant to you over the years. You may think it funny now, but you may surprise yourself when you actually get emotional at that moment. If your friends are willing to wear a tie and be a part of your wedding, you owe them at least a little sentiment, right?

If you arent the emotional type, then it might be a good idea to give the gifts ahead of time at your bachelor party. If the bride gets mad, you can tell her that you thought that was the way tradition worked.

Bachelor parties are the perfect time to give a more unconventional gift such as a flask or even a crazy tie. Just tell your bride that you gave them something engraved and she will be happy. Above all, tell your friends how much you appreciate them for being a part of your big day. Your wedding day will stay in your memory forever and you want your best friends to be standing there at your side to enjoy the celebration.
