Is The Wedding Facing A Complete Loss Of Romance?

It seems as if wedding cars and wedding themes are becoming more and more diverse. With stories in the press of happy couples using tanks and gaudy pink limos instead of the classical look, seemingly now it is more original to take the traditional route. It is not just wedding cars that are changing; people's weddings in general are changing as people try to constantly outdo each other in what can be the most outlandish wedding possible.

Wedding themes are becoming increasingly popular; a recent story in a national soap opera shows a couple hosting a country and western wedding. No sign of any cars there, it will surely be horses and carriages with all of the guests wearing Stetsons. While this for me would be the most nightmarish wedding possible, each to their own. It is doubtless that many will even copy this idea as the trend to outdo the last wedding rolls on.

In my opinion, classic wedding cars are still the best way to arrive at the venue. What could be more timeless than pulling up in an elegant Rolls Royce adorned with bows and ribbons? Seemingly I am in the minority in this view; the current trends seem to have the least amount of tradition at your wedding in order that it be a spectacle. As stated before, everybody has a different idea of their perfect wedding and if that means heading to the church in a garish bright pink Cadillac then so be it.

Some companies who supply wedding cars have been astute enough to keep up to date with these modern trends. Some are even now supplying cars that are from film and television to accommodate the requirements of even the most unique wedding theme. Of note, it is possible to hire the Nightrider car or the A Team van as part of the wedding procession. While I must applaud this effort, at least as a kitsch form of transport, it is hardly romantic.

My brother is getting married soon and I asked him if he had thought about wedding cars or a wedding theme. While it is hard to assess whether my brother is ever joking he said that he was thinking of planning a Back to the Future themed wedding. Naturally, for a Back to the Future wedding the only car you can use is the Deloreon, complete with gulwing doors. While he may in fact be joking, his bride to be did not seem happy with the decision, maybe they will have a host of wedding cars along traditional lines after all.

Noticeably romance seems to have departed from the wedding, not just in terms of the cars used for the procession, but more generally. While in the past a wedding was about dedicating your life to another person, today it seems that it is just an excuse for a party. With the expense of a modern wedding, surely romance should be the primary concern of the couple? In some cases it is startlingly clear that a wedding is a method of kitting out their new home and hosting a party for all their friends.

All this is unsurprising, while I do not want to harp on and be considered too traditional, the sanctity of marriage in the modern world is sadly suffering. With divorce rates so high, the penchant for a one day wedding festival is understandable; after all, in the modern world it is likely you will have more than one anyway. Hopefully this hasn't been too much of a rant into the loss in tradition involved in wedding ceremonies, there are of course still those out there who plan to have one wedding and it should be the most romantic day of their life, it is my hope this attitude will experience resurgence.
