Planning A Memorable Women's Retreat

Churches around the country are realizing the benefits of a successful women's ministry. This is a group of women who meet regularly to encourage one another with the Word of God and discuss different topics.

Women's ministry is a time for women to be refreshed as they discuss different issues in their lives and how they pertain to godly living and being a bold witness. Other things, such as mission projects, outings, and support groups are typical during times of women's ministry. They are a very special part of the church that reaches out to others in times of need.

Frequently, a women's ministry will plan a women's retreat. Planning a memorable retreat is something that is not difficult, but it does take some time. A retreat should be something that is planned and held at least once or twice per year. It should be a special event that is well thought out and planned so that it will be a memorable and enjoyable event for each and every woman who attends.

When the women's ministry begins to plan their retreat, they should keep in mind that the event should be planned to accommodate women from all walks of life. Women of all ages, nations, and races could attend this retreat; so the first step in planning a memorable women's retreat is to choose a theme or topic for the retreat that will be suitable for women from all walks of life.

It is important that the topic is one that includes all women, both individually and as a group. This is a very important step because when the women get together for this retreat, it will be a time of thought, reflection, sharing, caring, connection, and renewal.

The first part of your memorable retreat should be the welcome. You will want to warmly welcome each woman as she walks through the door. There are several things that you can do to make your guest feel welcomed. You can have a greeter who stands by the door and opens it as each participant walks in.

The greeter can hand each woman some little welcome gift. This can be a pen and paper, a pin, a welcome letter or even a flower. She will be warmly welcomed by the little welcome gift she receives at the door. Then you will want to have her create a nametag and introduce her to some of the other women. You can do the greeting and welcoming over a continental breakfast that could consist of donuts, muffins, juice and coffee. Remember, that the first impression is the most important; so you will want to start the retreat day off right.

Next, you will want to plan the workshops and activities that you will have during your women's retreat. Your workshops should be focused around the central theme of your retreat. They should be very informative and enjoyable.

You can get outside speakers to come in and conduct the workshops or you can have members from your own congregation conduct them. Before the retreat however, make sure you have all of the needed and requested materials available and ready for the workshop. Make sure all of the technology such as projectors, computers, televisions, etc. work properly before the retreat workshops begin.

Non-working or malfunctioning technology can cause your participants to lose interest. Of course, emergency breakdowns could occur, but you can handle that if it occurs.

Next, you will want to plan a good, healthy lunch for your women's retreat. You will want to plan a lunch that is light and healthy. Sandwiches or wraps, fruit, salads, soups, and a dessert such as cheesecake, chocolate cake or cookies would be ideal. You can offer a few different sandwiches and wraps such as turkey, ham or vegetarian. When planning the lunch, you will want to keep everyone in mind, so by providing a variety of things for the lunch will be a great way to accommodate all appetites.

Finally, you will want to plan a closing activity. The closing activity of the retreat will be what the women most remember; so it should be something interactive and informative. Maybe you can do something as a group or you can review and discuss everything that you learned from your workshops. Including music is also a good closing activity. Music is nice and uplifting. You could also consider a guest speaker for the final event of the day.

If your women's retreat is more than one day long, you will want to plan each day separately. It is good to have a daily format that you follow.
