The Science of Getting Rich: 7 Principles from Chapter Eight

"Thinking in the Certain Way"

One of the things I did after I started reading this book was to keep a journal. I don't write about my daily activities or anything like that. What I include in this journal are the things I want, and I read through my list every day. This helps me to focus on what I want and ignore what I don't want.

All you need is a piece of paper. Write down what you want and read through it every day. This will help you reinforce what you want.

There are seven principles you want to keep in mind here before you do this exercise:

1. Form a clear and definite mental picture of what you want.

If you want more money, exactly how much money do you want? If you want to find the man or woman of your dreams, what does he/she look like? Create a picture in your mind of exactly what it is you want. Include the smells, tastes, and everything associated with what you want. This will make it more real.

2. Having a general desire for anything is not enough.

Too many people never get out of life what they want because they either don't know what they want, or they only have a vague notion of what they want. This is what separates the dreamers from those who get what they want.

I believe that most want to help others. We can't give others what we don't have though. To help others, and to give to others, you must have something to give.

3. You don't need exercises in concentration or a special time for prayer and affirmations.

Wattles says to pray without ceasing. This means to constantly focus on what you want regardless of what you are doing. Let your subconscious mind work on it. The subconscious mind is far more powerful, and this is where the real work is done anyway.

Focus on the picture in your mind of exactly what it is you want, and then put that picture in your subconscious mind.

4. The more clear and definite your mental picture, the easier it will be to hold it in your thoughts.

See it, hear it, feel it, taste it, smell it. The more clear and vivid the details are, the easier it is to visualize exactly what you want. Make your picture as clear as possible and keep your focus on it.

5. Beyond having a clear mental picture, you must have the purpose to realize it.

It is not enough to have a clear mental picture of what it is you want. There has to be a purpose to it. I guess this is what you would call the "why." Purpose is also about formulating a plan to get what you want and taking action.

6. Remember to practice gratitude.

Once you know what it is you want, then you need to be thankful for it. Pray about it. Ask God for it, and thank Him for giving it to you. Where most Christians fail in their prayers is that they ask for things that aren't biblical.

The Bible is clear that God wants us to be prosperous, healthy, and whole. In fact, before the fall in the Garden of Eden, that was exactly how He designed things.

Practice gratitude for all of the good things in your life. This practice alone can change your life.

7. Have an invincible and unwavering faith that what you want is yours.

You don't need a sweet hour of prayer, and you don't need to ask God for what you want every day. Pray about your request, and then "Believe that ye receive it."

God knows exactly what we need. He also knows all of the things He wants to give us if we simply ask. Once you've expressed your request to God then thank Him for it and let it go. Continue to focus on what you want. The more focused you are, the sooner you will receive it.
