International MMS on Cell Phones
Is it possible to send out international MMS to any of your friends who live out of the US? Yes you may as long as you know how to setup your cell phone for international MMS. This can be done easily if you know how provided that your cell phone service carrier provides you with the MMS service. Another thing that you need to have is a WAP enabled cell phone to send out international MMS as well as receiving it.
A cell phone that is WAP enabled means the cell phone can be used to send out messages that contain multimedia content such as images, pictures, video clips, animations, as well as flash files. If your cell phone does not have this feature, then the cell phone cannot be used to send out MMS let alone receiving it.
Check with your cell phone service provider to see whether they support international service. There are providers that only support local services and that means you can't send out MMS to other international countries. There are also providers that only support SMS to be sent out to international countries but they don't support international MMS service.
Why is that so? MMS is an extension of SMS and the process to encode the message is a lot more complicated than the standard usual text messages. Text messages are easy to be encoded and therefore the charges to send out SMS are cheaper these days. However, MMS service is a lot more expensive since the messages sent out have to be encoded correctly and at the same time the provider have to ensure that the recipient will receive the MMS properly. The process is a long one and the result is the cost to provide the MMS is expensive let alone sending out MMS internationally.
There are few companies out there who provided another service. They are the middlemen and these operators deal only with MMS. When you subscribe to any one of them, you will then be given instructions to setup your cell phone to be able to receive international MMS. Follow the instruction properly and you will be able to send out and receive MMS internationally without much hassle.
If your cell phone service carrier provided the international MMS service, make sure that you check out the charges first since there are possibilities that the charges could be more expensive than these middlemen operators. If the charges are about the same, check also whether your carrier charges for receiving the MMS too or not. If they do charge for receiving MMS, you should be careful enough since there are times when you would receive MMS from anonymous and you don't want to end up paying ridiculous amount of money to the carrier.
In conclusion, to be able to send out MMS whenever you travel internationally, you should know two things; one is your cell phone should be WAP enabled and another thing your cell phone carrier should be supporting the service. If the carrier doesn't, then you can always resort to the middlemen who will charge you a certain amount that I consider to be affordable for any cell phone users.
You may have to call up your cell phone service carrier to find out about this information. If that is the case, then make sure you ask them how much are they charging for each MMS sent out internationally and how much are they charging too for receiving them. Asking all of these information will allow you to decided whether the service is acceptable or not and from there you can decide whether to continue with subscribing with the service or revert to the middlemen operators. Remember, what you want is to save money and at the same time to be able to send out your international friends and colleagues professional and stylish messages.
