Protection From Unwanted Calls To Your Cell Phone

I get so many unwanted phone calls from sales people. How can I get my phone number on a no call list? Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry, it is the same Registry consumers use to register their land lines, by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number they wish to register. Registrations become effective within 31 days of signing up and are active for five years. There is no cut-off date or deadline for registrations.

Business-to-business calls are not covered under the Registry.

FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers are barred from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent.

I do know that there are programs you can get for mobiles running Symbian OS that will only alert you of calls from a predefined "ok list" only.

Do you know, have cell phone companies started offering cell phone service with parental controls, i.e. through use of something like "Mobile Gaurdian"? We've been looking and while MG's been available for a while we can't find anyone offering it or anything like it and would very much like to do so. We're interested in features such as set numbers that can be called, limits on minutes and messages, web lock/unlock, time on/off and when "off" two or three numbers that could still be used in emergencies. I know there are lots of parents out there who'd pay for options like these, just can't find any providers! The answer: I do not currently know of any company that provides this service.

Is there any way to find out what number called your phone if it shows up as a blocked number, or is there a way to keep blocked numbers from calling you? Unfortunately you can't find out what number called you if the caller is hiding his ID. It depends on your phone model, but go to Settings - Security -Call Barring.

If you find 'incoming calls except from contacts list', this will make you receive only calls from your contacts, but I think all phones only have the option 'incoming calls' which make you receive no calls at all. Anyway, if someone is annoying or threatening you, call your network straight away.

I received a very unclear international call from a person in Sudan using one of our local mobile phone company numbers. When I called back the number, I discovered that it was not yet activated to be used by the mobile phone company, and the customer care operator at the phone company had no record of such a call. How was this possible? I think there could be a few different reasons why you weren't able to get a hold of the caller. You said this was an international call, therefore it makes me believe that it is a actual number, you just may not have all the information needed to call it back, country codes and such. Or it could just be your basic cause of interference.

You would be surprised how often this happens. What you need to do is get a hold of your carrier again and have them take a second look. If they say they are not able to find anything then you should suggest making a Trouble Ticket. This is a work order to have the network team look into the issues that regular CSR's dont have the access to.
