Moms Deserve More Than Flowers On Mother 's Day

Tags: ,

Every year Mother’s Day comes in the Spring, and it is a time to show our love and respect to our mothers. Some of us have the knack when it comes to finding different and unique gifts…others tend to repeat the same cliché’; flowers. While flowers are great especially in a gift pinch, and always can brighten a day, they soon die and Mom is left with nothing.

This year on May 13th, Mother’s Day, surprise Mom with a unique gift; something she would not normally expect. Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Perhaps one will fit for size.

Remember Mother’s Day is for Mom, so plan a little pampering for her. She deserves some alone time where she can rejuvenate her soul. Put together a thoughtful basket filled with the following items to set the stage for some royal treatment for the first queen in your life. First, include manicure/pedicure gift certificate from a local shop/salon. You can purchase these for as little as $20 to upper limits of $60, depending on the extras you add. Next, add a pair of fancy flip flops for Mom to wear on the way out of the salon, so does not damage her paint job. If Mom has an MP3 player, then add an ITunes gift card, so she can download some favorite tunes to listen to as she relaxes in the salon/shop. If money is not an issue, you could throw in many extras, such as a massage or facial. To add to the mood of your basket, a scented candle or incense would be a perfect touch. Perhaps you have a local tea house near by, where Mom could venture for some High Tea after her spa treatments; you could add a gift certificate for there too.

Maybe planning an afternoon picnic together is more your speed. Then scout out a local park or nature preserve. Pack all the essentials for a special day together. Again the gift basket is always a nice presentation. You could add pretty linen napkins and a nice blanket. Include a few selections of sandwiches or wraps, some side salads and fruits. For drinks you could bring bottled waters and flavored ice teas. Bring along a small radio/cd player for soft music, and don’t forget a camera.

Reminding Mom about many of the special times you have shared is also very thoughtful. If you have access to old photos, you could make her a collage using photos of your childhood. You can purchase all different styles of frames ready for the addition of your pictures in local craft stores. This is a thoughtful, homemade gift that does not need to be expensive, and really will bring a smile to Mom’s face.

If writing is your thing, buy a pretty journal. Decorate the cover yourself with a special picture of you and Mom. Within the journal take time to write several entries about special memories you have with Mom. This is very special keepsake and can be passed down through the generations. Since it involves some of your own quiet time to recall and write, you may want to start this gift idea sooner than later. You can make a vow to add a new memory to the journal each year before each Mother’s Day.

Just remember Mother’s Day is a day to let the first, and most important woman in your life know how honored she is, but this should not be the only day you show her your love.
