Political Essays

Political essay is a standard requirement for most political science courses. Aside from evaluating how one understands the said matter, it also tests the writer’s critical thinking skills by allowing him/her to write about a particular topic on the said subject. The said topic entails reflective thinking in addressing the fundamental basics then extending to the complexities of the said subject.Just as with any research paper, a paper on the subject must entail much thought and organization. Although an absolute recipe in the formulation of said articles does not exist, certain considerations still exist when writing one. More often that not, people are faced with a number of questions that may hinder them from writing a satisfactory paper. Thus, it is important for people to address these questions first before s/he starts writing the paper.
An argument or a question that is not too broad nor too specific may first be formulated, which the paper must address or answer. The writer must find sufficient information and a number of scholarly resources that would back up his/her argument or question to make his/her thoughts about the matter even more consistent and academic. Proper organization follows suit. Knowing something about the said issues may sometimes be not sufficient. Knowing how to organize one’s thoughts using relevant information to back these up for a coherent and convincing argument is important. Successfully organizing these thoughts would then allow the writer to make more sense when writing a paper about the article.
A proper relationship must exist between the existing facts and the writer’s thoughts. Establishing a relationship between both would then manifest the writer’s critical and evaluative thinking, a must for people who study the said course. Hence, it is important to come up with a particular argument or question, including the elements and issues that must be addressed and also the assumptions that motivates the argument itself.
Choosing an argument and looking for relevant information regarding the argument does not only allow the writer to critically evaluate the matter. It also allows him/her to gauge the soundness of the argument, think about its implications, and use these constructs resourcefully to properly address the issue at hand. It is also useful, therefore, to have an optimal of factual and conceptual information especially since a lot of resources are available about the subject.
When researching for a topic, proper selection is also equally important. But only facts and figures that are truly helpful in backing up one’s personal thoughts about the matter must be used when writing a paper. Of equal importance is making an outline, flowchart or diagram to organize one’s thoughts before setting off to write the paper itself.
Political essay need not be complex. A brief one which consists of an opening discussion of the argument, a number of paragraphs that address the issues at hand, and a conclusion to wrap up the entire paper, is enough rather than pages and pages of words that lack cohesiveness, organization, and much thought.
