Three Steps To Making You A Better Writer
Much has been said about how creative writing helps in the development of well being. Much has been written about the importance and role of creative writing - the personal, social, and political aspects that can be found in it. But how can one really become an effective and efficient practitioner of the craft?
For aspiring and neophyte writers, creative writing is not impossible to master. Just having the passion and determination to come up with a good piece could give go a long way towards the realization of that goal.
Sharpen Your Senses
What makes you appreciate the people around you, the things around you, and the events that happen to you? What tells your brain that everything around you really exists? What dictates to your body that your actions and reactions must be this or that way?
Give all the credit to your senses. They help you determine which things are beautiful and which are not. They make you realize which things are good and which things are bad. Hence, having sound and unassailable senses helps you to effectively carry out your subject through writing.
Be An Analytical and Imaginative Thinker
Have you ever wondered what really makes the world beautiful? Or have you ever thought about what those structures and configurations could mean, aside from their common familiar purposes? Have you ever tried giving a different meaning to a pebble along the sidewalk? Or made fun of the innocuous horizon?
Nobody controls your body except you, as nobody could dictate what you must or what you must not think. The world is so wide; it is full of interesting topics to write about. All you need to do is let your mind scavenge for those ideas. You can see them in your neighborhood, inside your house, or even within yourself.
Try to give everything a reason for their existence - the mendicant near the village gates, the lizard near the window, the cobwebs, everything. You might find yourself ridiculous with your thoughts, but that could help you weave your thoughts for a writing topic.
Paint With Words
As writers, you may want your readers feel, see, or experience your ideas exactly the way you want them to be. It is, therefore, important for you to build an exciting pool of effective vocabularies for this purpose. Your words need not be highfalutin and it is unnecessary to parade every word that you know.
Remember that the main purpose of creative writing is to express what you really feel, what you really think, and not to impress your readers with your choice of words. All you need is a simple, exact, and powerful stock of vocabulary to help you touch the hearts of your readers through your writing.
In creative writing, every writer has his own distinct style and technique. Every writer has his own purpose and fountain of ideas. There is no best technique or style or method of writing.
As a writer, you do not need to be the best in your chosen field. You do not need to compete with the other writers in terms of style, output, and popularity. For as long as you enjoy what you are doing, and you really try to write what you want to write, without bastardizing the rights of other people, you are a good writer.
